About This Pub

You know, I have to say, popping into The Spaniards Inn feels like discovering a little piece of London's rich history – it's got that authentic British charm with its old beams and tales of ghosts and famous writers. The food is where it really shines; we tucked into a fabulous Sunday roast that was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, paired with their great range of ales and wines. It's ideal for a relaxed brunch after a stroll on the heath or just chilling in the beautiful garden with friends. The staff are often brilliant, like that server Gina who made our visit feel special with her attentiveness. On the flip side, it can get absolutely packed, especially on sunnier days, and you might notice the team looking a bit worn out, which could mean service isn't quite as smooth. Still, it's a solid spot for anyone after a proper pub experience – just go with an open mind and maybe avoid the rush hours for the best of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic atmosphere is absolutely captivating, with its Grade II listed building dating back to 1585 and connections to literary greats like Dickens and Keats – it's like stepping into a storybook.
  • The food is spot on, especially the Sunday roast and dishes like fish and chips or sticky toffee pudding; they're delicious and really hit the spot after a wander around Hampstead.
  • Staff are warm and welcoming, often going the extra mile with personal touches like giving a quick tour or checking in to make sure you're enjoying yourself.
  • The outdoor garden is a proper treat, perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint of cask ale or a craft beer from their excellent selection.
Cons
  • It can get really crowded, particularly on weekends, which might make it feel a bit overwhelming and take away from the cosy vibe.
  • Service might come across as a tad rushed or tired during busy times, like on a Sunday, even if the staff are generally friendly.
  • Some food options, such as certain roasts, haven't lived up to expectations for everyone, with a few folks finding them disappointing despite the overall menu being strong.

We tried the fish&chips, the sunday roast and sticky toffee pudding. All delicious. No complaints, all good. But unfortunately I got the feeling that this place is too crowded and the staff are tired of people. Maybe because we went there on a Sunday and we could have seen a better service on a weekday. Happy that the place is doing great but if you're looking for a chill sunday meal and relaxing, this is not the place for you. If you're after delicious food only, then you'll be satisfied.

Loved this place. So much history and the food was fabulous. Mark and Gina were so warm and welcoming and even gave us a tour and shared some history of the place. Just a gorgeous building and an amazing experience on our first trip to London. Will definitely be back.

I've had a few roasts but next to my own I think this is probably one of the best I've had. Lovely old pub, massive outside space and nice friendly staff. 10.10 and can't wait to go back

Starting with the goods: the service here is really good! The place both inside and outside is epic! It's honestly so good it can't be described. That was until the food arrived. It was super tasty but we ordered the sharer roast and it's honestly the biggest disappointment I've had in a long time. The portion of beef, chicken and lamb is good but there is one pig in blanket and a very small ring of stuffing even though it's a sharing roast and the menu is written is plural. There was also only 1 half of parsnip hidden behind it all, which is just a cherry on top of the disappointment. The potatoes were really good though. I've been here many times and the sharing dishes always disappoint. I recommend getting individual ones and extra portions if needed instead of anything to share.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast at Spaniards Inn! The food was absolutely delicious… perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming A special mention goes to Gina, our waitress, who was incredibly kind and attentive. She made sure we had a great table and checked in on us throughout our visit to ensure we were happy. Her friendly service really made the experience even better! Overall, a wonderful place for a Sunday roast, and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
