About This Pub

Oh, the Old Bull & Bush is one of those hidden gems in Hampstead that really captures the essence of a traditional British pub, right in the middle of London. I have to say, it's got this lovely, relaxed feel with stylish interiors and a courtyard that's just begging for a sunny afternoon drink. The food stands out too – think mouth-watering dishes like beef croquettes with a cracking gravy, or hearty roasts that hit the spot, especially with options for all tastes, including generous portions that make sharing a joy. The service is spot on, always friendly and making you feel like you're catching up with old mates. On the downside, I've heard a few folks mention that some meats come out a tad overdone, and those starters can sting the wallet a bit, so it might not be the best for a quick, budget bite. All in all, it's a brilliant place to unwind, whether you're popping in for a pint after a wander in the nearby parks or settling in for a full meal – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with stylish interiors and a cosy feel that makes it perfect for a relaxed get-together with friends.
  • The food is absolutely delicious, offering a great variety of options for meat, fish, vegetarian diets, and even kids' menus, all made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  • Service is friendly and attentive, creating that welcoming vibe where you feel right at home from the moment you step in.
  • It's got a fantastic location near Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park, ideal for a pint or meal after a lovely walk.
  • Portions are generous, leaving you feeling well satisfied without breaking the bank on mains.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be slightly overcooked, like the lamb in a few experiences, which might take the edge off an otherwise tasty meal.
  • Starters tend to be on the pricey side, so you might want to think twice before ordering them if you're watching your spend.
  • There are occasional minor service slip-ups, such as tables not being fully set up before seating, which can feel a bit off.

Nice pub/restaurant to visit on a sunny day. Was happy with the food I had too - the beef croquettes are really good, and served with a super tasty dripping gravy sauce. For my main I opted for the lamb dish. The meat was slightly over done, but thankfully the gravy made it palatable in terms of texture. Flavour-wise I really enjoyed the combination of ingredients and seasoning.

Good menu choices for fish, meat and vegetarian diets. Nice seating options in bar and restaurant areas. Friendly service. Tasty food. Fair prices got mains. Starters are pricey but what you get but very tasty.

Really lovely pub. Service was exceptional, atmosphere and decor was fab, and food was excellent. I came with some friends on a Sunday and we all had the roasts. The meats were really well cooked and so were the Yorkshire puds! The portions are generous. The only thing I’d say is that the potatoes weren’t crispy. I would also recommend booking in advance if you want a table in the restaurant area. The outside area is also really lovely on a sunny day.

Our first time visiting and the initial impression is warm, cozy and welcoming. Low beams in the pubby area created atmosphere and the furniture lent itself to a restaurant feeling. This is a hard combination to pull off well: charming pub restaurant but where you can also just go for a drink. You order at the bar on this side (restaurant is table service). Staff very friendly and helpful with recommendations. No fish and chips (disaster) but the recommended pie was perfection. A glossy meaty filling, beautiful mash and silky gravy. The starters were delicious and my main was actually so pretty that almost didn't want to mess it up by eating. Almost. The crackling on the pork belly was excellent, hard to hear my husband talk when I munched on it 😂 10/10 for starters and mains. The dessert fell short a little bit not loads: 7/10 overall. The brownie lacked the depth of flavour present in the other dishes. My lemon tart was sensational in texture and zingy to perfect but the pastry tart was undercooked. The music wasn't too loud and it is dog friendly. We'd definitely go back😁

The food and the atmosphere and the notes from the booking being adhered to were excellent. Really enjoyed the starters and the main, had no room for dessert sadly. The only improvement I would add is have the waiting staff check the tables before sitting guests. Little things like making sure the candle is lit and if they need a napkin, saves the guests asking for them. Otherwise the staff in the restaurant were lovely and the bar staff were great all round. Had a lovely evening and can’t wait to come back. Thank you
