About This Pub

Ah, The Southbank Bar – it's one of those places in Nottingham that really knows how to get the crowd going, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's a proper sports bar where you can settle in with a pint and catch the big games on personal TVs, and the atmosphere just lifts when there's live music or a DJ spinning tunes from the 80s right up to today. The staff are gems; they're quick on their feet, remembering orders and jumping in to help with little things, which makes you feel right at home. Plus, the deals are brilliant – think cheap pints, burger combos for a fiver, and happy hours that make Monday to Friday evenings a treat, especially if you're a student. It's no wonder folks keep coming back for events like watching F1 or enjoying Saturday afternoon sessions. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; I've heard tales of dodgy food where portions are skimpy and things like fish and chips don't quite live up to expectations, and the toilets can be a bit of a state, which is a shame when you're otherwise having a laugh. Overall, if you're after a fun, affordable night with mates, it's worth a punt, just maybe keep your expectations in check for the grub and pop to the loo elsewhere if you can!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially if you're into sports – it's perfect for catching games with personal TVs at some seats and a lively crowd.
  • The staff are top-notch; they're super friendly, quick to remember your order, and always on hand to sort things out, like wiping down tables or taking orders efficiently.
  • They've got some cracking deals on drinks and food, like a pint of Carling and a cheeseburger for just £5, plus happy hours with 30% off draughts and student discounts – makes it wallet-friendly for a night out.
  • Live music and DJs, particularly on Saturdays, add a fun vibe with dance floor fillers from the 80s onwards, and they've got events like watching F1 or darts that really bring people together.
  • It's well-managed with plenty of upcoming events and deals, making it a go-to spot for a good time without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; one experience mentioned small portions and underwhelming items like floppy fish batter and cheap-looking chips, which might leave you wanting more.
  • The toilets have had some complaints about being downright filthy, with issues like a lingering stench and mess that could put a damper on your evening.
  • It might get quite busy, leading to potential waits or service slip-ups, even if the staff are generally on the ball.
  • Some events or deals are listed for future dates that seem a bit off, like ones in 2025, which could confuse things if you're planning a visit soon.

Barstaff were very on the ball regarding who was queuing erc for saying how busy it was. Was just about to go to the bar to order food, and unexpectedly got table order. Asked for a cloth to wipe our table, and waitress came over straight away to do it for us. Always start in this pub when visiting notts, and always the same level. Food is always decent as well. For the price, you get plenty

We use this place 4 to 5 times a year to watch F1. The staff and management are fantastic. Great hospitality and can accommodate any sized party. We also have our annual Christmas F1 dinner here and this year it was the best we've ever had. The food was delicious and well portioned. We'll do guys and see you soon.

Small potion of fish batter wasn’t crisp chips were cheap looking McDonald’s style fries & the toilets were disgusting made worse by the fact I think I was the only person to have stepped foot in them they stink of urine & the toilet still had poo covered toilet paper staring back at me, does anyone inspect the loos? Very disappointed. I don’t touch mushy peas you’d think for £12 they’d have filled the cold plate with a few more chips.
