About This Pub

Ah, the Bell Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you step inside, being Nottingham's oldest and all, with its Grade II listed charm and wooden panelling that whispers tales of the past. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely love the lively atmosphere; picture yourself sinking into a comfy spot with mates, catching the Women's Euros or the British & Irish Lions tour on the screens, all while enjoying a proper pint. The staff really shine through in the reviews, making everyone feel welcome and even dishing out handy tips for exploring the city – it's that personal touch that turns a simple drink into a memorable evening. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; there was a right faff with the food in one review, where a steak went from undercooked to overdone in a flash, which could put a dampener on things if you're planning a meal. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear the good outweighs the bad for most, so if you're popping into Nottingham, I'd say give it a go for the history and craic, but maybe stick to the drinks if you're feeling cautious. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed catch-up, just remember to book ahead for the big events!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Bell Inn is a real charmer with its historic 15th-century building, offering that authentic old-school pub vibe that's perfect for a cosy night out.
  • The staff are absolute gems, like Darcie and Tino, who make you feel right at home with their warm welcomes and helpful recommendations.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere, with multiple bars and plenty of space, making it ideal for watching live sports like the Women's Euros or rugby tours.
  • They've got a solid selection of beers and some tasty food options, especially if you're after a classic pie or a pint in the beer garden.
  • Being dog-friendly and having amenities like WiFi and outdoor seating means it's versatile for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
  • Food can be hit or miss; one experience had a steak that came out raw and then overcooked, leaving it dry and disappointing.
  • With its central location, it might get quite busy, which could mean waits for tables or service that's a bit rushed on peak days.
  • As a Greene King pub, the beer range is decent but not groundbreaking, so if you're after something really unique, you might find it a tad standard.

What a proper English pub ! Fantastic atmosphere , ample areas to drink in. I think i found 3 separate bars inside. We were day drinking, but I can only imagine a night out here would also be fantastic.

Great old pub in the centre of the city. Some really interesting features and wood panelling. A reasonable range of beers - it is a Green King pub!
