About This Pub

Ah, The Selkirk, it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that really hits the mark in South West London. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a highlight – think hearty British classics made with top-notch seasonal ingredients, and that Sunday roast sounds like something special you'd rave about over a pint. The staff come across as genuinely lovely, always ready to lend a hand or accommodate any requests, which makes the whole experience feel personal and enjoyable. Plus, with its historic feel and a cracking beer garden, it's ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening out with friends. On the flip side, it's not without its drawbacks; some prices might raise an eyebrow, especially if you're watching the pennies, and the opening times could do with a bit more clarity to avoid any mix-ups. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone in the area looking for a proper pub that balances tradition with a modern twist – I'd say give it a go if you're nearby, as the positives far outweigh the niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, seasonal British ingredients turned into simple yet delicious dishes, with the Sunday roast being a real standout.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome, whether it's for a casual drink or a big event.
  • It's got a lovely beer garden and cosy atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates in the heart of Tooting.
  • They've got great spaces for private parties, like the function room that can handle a crowd without feeling cramped, and they're flexible with things like music and needs.
  • As a historic freehouse, it has that warm, traditional pub charm that's hard to beat, and it's part of a family-run group that really cares about quality.
Cons
  • Some dishes can feel a bit pricey, like that pie at £21, which might make you think twice if you're on a budget.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in the details shared, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises when you're planning a visit.

We hired the upstairs room for our leaving party. Such a fantastic venue and the staff couldn't do enough to help us. They were SO friendly, helpful and cool about us playing loud music 😆. About 40+ ppl easily fitted in the room without feeling overcrowded. We had our own barman, Joshua, who was brilliant. It was just perfect and just what we wanted. Thank you Selkirk!! X

It is difficult to find excellent restaurant food these days but the Selkirk is an exception. I am never disappointed with the cuisine here. The menu is original but simple and fresh. On my visit today we shared a range of plates including three starters and each dish was exceptional. The staff were a little over stretched- this is understandable given it is Father’s Day- but each person who served us was lovely. 5 stars to all especially the chefs. A perfect Sunday afternoon!

As always, had a great visit. Very friendly and kind staff matched with wonderful food. Staff were very accommodating for needs, including disabilities. Staff were courteous and engaged well with everyone. Live quite a distance from the Selkirk but it is worth thr drive. Can't wait to come back.

Best pub in SW! Consistently good - food, service and atmosphere. Staff go above and beyond to make guests happy, the Sunday roast is elite. Thanks to Matt (I think) the manager for looking after us!

Food is expensive, for example pie £21. Short rib on toast was very good. Nice pub, off the high street. Plenty of parking, London rates at £4 an hour. Guest beer turned out to be Fullers (or was it Youngs?) and at 5.80 a pint, excellent value.
