About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Antelope – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub in South London, with its roots going back to the 1800s, which gives it that authentic, welcoming feel. I've heard from folks who've been there that the food's a real standout after their refurb; the roasts and specials are spot on, and it's clear they've put in the effort to make it delicious. The staff are an absolute delight, always efficient and chatty, which makes for a relaxed evening whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a meal. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – some have had a rough time with the veggie dishes, like that aubergine bake that didn't quite live up to expectations, and there was a mix-up with the Sunday roast not being available when it was advertised. Still, with its outdoor space and events like live sport, it's a top pick for a get-together, as long as you go in with realistic hopes and maybe stick to the meatier options if that's your thing. All in all, it's a solid spot that does a lot right, and I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone in the area looking for a good night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant, especially after their recent refurbishment – think mouthwatering roasts and specials that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere with a touch of history, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint.
  • Great spot for groups, with options like an outdoor area, live sport screenings, and even a cracking pub quiz to keep things lively.
Cons
  • The veggie options can be a bit hit or miss; one review mentioned the aubergine bake was underwhelming, so it might not satisfy everyone.
  • Sometimes the menu doesn't quite match what's on the website, like when the Sunday roast wasn't available as promised – a bit frustrating if that's what you're after.
  • It can get quite busy, which adds to the buzz but might mean waits for tables or service on peak days.

We visited The Antelope on Mitcham Road as a group of seven, including two children, specifically drawn by the Sunday Roast advertised on their website, which was stated to be available on Bank Holiday Monday. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we discovered that the roast was not on the menu, and no explanation was provided as to why it wasn’t being served. This was a disappointment, especially as it was the main reason for choosing the venue. That said, we had a table booked and decided to stay. I’m pleased to say that the overall experience was still very positive. The staff were attentive, the food we did order was of a high standard, and the service throughout was very good. It’s a pleasant and welcoming pub, and I would be happy to return – though I do hope the advertised menus are more closely aligned with what’s actually available in the future.

Amazing Pub! Looks so good after the refurbishment, staff is super friendly and efficient and wow the new menu!!! I’ve came twice since you reopened and the specials are to die for. 1st time I had the whole roasted plaice, Today I had the Devon Lamb rump and they were incredible. No need to go to some big name restaurant in London, the best food I’ve had this year has been at the Antelope! A special note for Preeti who took care of our table Today. Amazing service, thank you!

I took my parents for a Sunday Roast after the recent refurb and it was amazing. We all had beef and one person had the Beetroot Wellington. All 4 of us loved it and there was even some left for our dog! The staff were very friendly and very organised. Only two of us had dessert but both were delicious (sticky toffee pudding). The renovations look amazing and the whole vide is so much better. It has more character and soul whilst still retaining the original charm! We will defo be going back again soon! Loved it.

The pub is spectacular! The refurb is a 12/10! Such a lovely atmosphere! Would highly recommend for a drink or food or both! Lewis was an absolute ray of sunshine. Provided top tier service! Also what a grade A pub quiz. Run to walk to the Antelope!!!

Service is great and great atmosphere. However, we got the veggie roast and it was awful. The aubergine and mozzarella bake is just half an aubergine with fried veg and weird looking cheese on top. The meat options may be better, but would avoid the roast if you’re a veggie- unless they change it. Shame cos it’s a really lovely pub otherwise.
