About This Pub

Ah, J.J. Moon's in Tooting – it's one of those classic Wetherspoon pubs that you either love for its no-nonsense approach or find a bit lacking in the finer details. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff really shine here; they're quick, efficient, and make you feel welcome, which is just what you want after a long day. The beers are affordably priced, and there's a good atmosphere that keeps things lively without being overwhelming. Plus, being right by Tooting Broadway tube station makes it an absolute breeze to pop in for a drink on your way home. On the flip side, though, it's not all rosy – the decor is pretty basic, with that typical pub panelling that feels a tad tired, and some folks have had a rough time with the toilets, which apparently need a serious sort-out to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Then there are the occasional headaches like items being out of stock, whether it's for drinks or food, and a couple of bizarre staff interactions that left people scratching their heads. All in all, it's a reliable choice if you're after value for money and a chat with mates, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations – it's great for what it is, but it won't blow you away with luxury. If you're a fan of straightforward pubs, you'll probably enjoy it; otherwise, it might not be your cup of tea.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are always friendly and quick to serve, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a great selection of affordable beers and drinks, perfect for a budget-friendly night out.
  • The pub has a welcoming atmosphere and is decently sized, so it's easy to find a spot even when it's busy.
  • Its location near Tooting Broadway is spot on – just across the road from the tube, making it super convenient for a quick stop.
Cons
  • The decor is pretty basic and dated, with that standard Wetherspoon wood panelling that doesn't exactly wow you.
  • Toilets can be in a right state, with some reviews mentioning awful smells and needing a good clean-up.
  • Stock issues pop up now and then, like running out of popular drinks or food, which can leave you disappointed.
  • There have been a few odd incidents with staff behaviour, which might make you raise an eyebrow if you're unlucky enough to experience it.

Very basic ,the standard wood panelling and a few glass panels. The people were nice and friendly, and the staff were quick to serve. The toilets were horrible and definitely needed lots of attention. We sat outside the male toilets as it was packed, and all you could smell was urine, not good as it's right next door to the kitchen. As i'm trying to tick all the wetherspoons of my list, I'm glad I went, but I wouldn't return.

Absolutely shocking! Hardly anything in stock.... both drinks and food. We managed to finally find something and order via the app..... only for the barmaid to come and say there wasn't any chicken. Ended up getting a refund and leaving........ Bizarrely one of the staff kept sniffing my sister?!!!!

🚇Tooting Broadway 🍺 £2.77 Carlsberg JJ Moon’s is located at a busy junction on Tooting High Street. The nearest Tube is Tooting Broadway which is just across the road. This pub was converted from a shop in 1991 and was one of the earliest Spoons in South London. The pub is on the site of Tooting Public Baths, which opened in 1907 and demolished in 1981. The name J.J. Moon’s was inspired by the Moon Under Water, the ‘ideal pub’ imagined by George Orwell, who described the fictional pub in a 1946 article. There are four JJ Moon’s around London. This is a long and narrow spoons which has a low ceiling and minimal natural light. The decor is traditional Spoons fixtures and fittings with wood panelling on the walls, colourful floral prints and photographs of Edwardian Tooting. The servery is located on the right and stretches down half the length of the bar. The seating consists of poser tables at front and low level tables and chairs at the back. Carpet wise, it’s not overly jazzy. The beer line up had a familiar Spoons feel which includes five cask ales to choose from. I decided on a pint of Carlsberg, my pint hit the spot and remarkably cost less than three quid. The food offering as ever is a combination of deep fried and freshly microwaved fayre, Fish & Chips with an alcoholic drink costs £12.18. I arrived around 10.30am to start my crawl exploring the sights and sounds of SW17. The pub was fairly quiet and calm, there were lots of solo imbibers and a few punters sat at the back having breakfast. I did pop back around 6.30pm to use the loo before heading home, the pub was packed to rafters with a boisterous atmosphere. The service wasn’t great, the team member who served me seemed to be inconvenienced by me wanting to be served. Visiting JJ Moon’s was an average Spoons experience, nothing really special here. One thing I would say, is that the price point is great for older locals who can’t afford to spend double the price in other local establishments. So if you fancy a cheap pint in Tooting or a pee before getting the Tube, JJ Moon’s is worth a look. 📅 13th April 2024

Had some food and drinks in here the other day. Firstly service is very very good. Quick, friendly and efficient and during the meal we were asked how it was which is good for a pub. The food was ok. I had a cheese burger which tasted how it looked. Slightly bland but filled the hole (which was the intention) My friend had the fish and chips and said it was good. The food came out in good time considering the pub was busy. Marked down on atmosphere because as a spoons it’s not on the same level as the cross quays for instance and the toilets are pretty dire. Decent value / low cost food and drinks though. So serves a purpose. I would go again but not make it a destination place for food.
