About This Pub

You know, I had a wander into The Sanctuary House the other day, and it's one of those pubs that just feels right – nestled in the heart of London with a proper cosy feel to it. The food's a real highlight; their pies are bang on, with folks raving about the steak and ale or the chicken one with bacon and leek, paired with delightful sides like Yorkshire pudding. The drinks selection is spot on too, especially if you're after a refreshing cider. Service-wise, it's generally smooth sailing – quick seating and cheerful staff make it easy to settle in. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect; one chap mentioned the oil for the fish and chips looked a bit dark and past its best, which might put you off if you're going for that. Plus, the service charge thing is a bit muddled, and the veg portions are on the small side, so you might end up wanting more. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite with mates, especially if you fancy a lively spot without the fuss, but keep those little gripes in mind for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, especially their pies like steak and ale or chicken bacon leek – they're packed with flavour and really hit the spot.
  • Service is quick and friendly; you'll get seated without any fuss and the staff are attentive, making for a relaxed visit.
  • It's got that classic pub vibe – lively, welcoming atmosphere with great drinks on tap, like their raspberry and elderflower cider, which is a real treat.
Cons
  • The oil used for some dishes, like the fish, might need changing as it can look a bit off, which could affect the taste.
  • There's a bit of confusion with the service charge; it's meant for the kitchen and bar staff, not the waiters, so tipping might not go where you'd expect.
  • Sides like vegetables can be a tad skimpy, just a small portion of cabbage or peas, so you might want to order extra if you're peckish.

We ate here for our first bite in London. We were seated quickly. The oil that they cooked the fish in def needed to be changed as you can see how dark it is in the picture. Tip is included in the service charge but our waiter told us that charge was for the cook staff and bartenders not the wait staff and wanted us to tip him. We did as this was our first meal in London. We soon learned that the service charge includes the tip for him and if you were overjoyed with the service then you can leave an additional tip. It was a nice pub, the nachos were ok. Not much smoked salmon for the price…

Our first pie. We had the steak and ale pie. Was delicious. We also had the pâté as an appetizer. Very very good too. To drink, we decided on having a cider. Highly recommend the raspberry and elderflower cider.

Stopped in while walking by to grab an ale and pie! Wow this was delicious and in a very neat setting! The London pride pie was phenomenal and fresh! Even the side of cabbage and peas and mashed potatoes were delicious! Good beer on tap too! I’d highly recommend this place!

Overall, the food was decent. It is a popular place for pies so give it a try. The vegetables that came with the pie was just a little bit of shredded cabbage (I believe) with onion. The drinks were great, a nice pub like atmosphere that is very lively.

Such a lovely place! I don't eat seafood of any kind but my boyfriend got their fish and chips and I tried a bite. They were pretty tasty. I got the chicken bacon leek pie and it was so good. Yorkshire pudding and it also was delightful. The service was great and server was amazing as well! Would definitely come back!
