About This Pub

Ah, The Safari Lounge – what a gem tucked away in Abbeyhill, Edinburgh. I've got to say, it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a relaxed evening out. The food is where it shines brightest; folks are going on about the superb tacos and divine fish and chips, and from what I've heard, it's all so fresh and tasty that you'd never guess it's from what looks like a fun bar at first glance. Pair that with the super welcoming vibe and top-notch staff who are always polite and ready to make your visit memorable, and you've got yourself a spot that's ideal for everything from a casual drink to hosting a get-together with live music or comedy nights. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides – the prices can feel a touch high, especially if you're watching the pennies, and when it gets packed, which it often does, the service might not be as snappy as you'd hope, leaving you twiddling your thumbs a bit. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for pub goers looking for a good time; just plan ahead if you want to avoid the crowds and maybe save it for when you're in the mood to splash out a little. I'd say give it a go – you might just find your new favourite haunt!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – reviewers are raving about the tacos, fish and chips, and fresh dishes like gnocchi and dumplings, making it a real treat for a bite to eat.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for catching up with mates or watching the rugby, with a lively vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and professional, always up for a chat and making sure everyone has a good time.
  • It's brilliant for events, with options to book for parties, live music, or even just a table, and being dog-friendly adds a nice touch for those who bring their furry friends along.
Cons
  • Prices can be a bit steep, which might put some off if you're just popping in for a quick pint and a snack.
  • It gets pretty busy at times, and that can lead to service slowing down a tad, so you might have to wait a bit longer for your order.
  • Not the best spot for families in the evening, as under-18s have to leave by 8pm due to the rules, which limits things if you're out with the little ones.

The safari lounge is ok. The food is pretty good, but the prices are very high. The place gets pretty busy and service delivery suffers as a result. Overall, I would not return and suggest it be skipped.

Spent a great day yesterday (Saturday 15 March) watching the rugby in the Safari Lounge. The atmosphere is lovely and it's a very welcoming pub. The staff are very Friendly, Polite, Courteous and Professional. The food menu is really good plenty of options for all., but I highly recommend the Fish and Wedges it's delicious. Thank you Simon and your team, I had a great time and a great seat to watch the Rugby. Amanda

Food here is just incredible!! So fresh, you wouldn’t expect it upon walking in cause it’s seemingly just a fun bar but the food was so good! Highly recommend the gnocchi and dumplings!

Stopped for a mid-week glass of wine and a bite. Fish and chips were divine, honestly never had such tastey chips, and a poke bowl with mushrooms (which could have been better with salmon). But a great place, do give it a try

Superb tacos. Just had the beef shin and oxtail tacos today, had the fish ones too. Fish bites and fries are amazing, lovely little orange zest mayo along side. Absolutely delicious! Great bar staff, nice draft lagers. My usual once a month meal to myself on my route home.
