About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper cosy spot to unwind after a long day. I've got to say, the warm welcome and that inviting open fire really set the tone for a relaxed visit, whether you're popping in for a quick breakfast or settling in for a full meal. The food's generally spot on, with fresh, tasty options and those 2-4-1 deals that make it brilliant value, plus the outdoor terrace is a gem on nicer days. And if you're out with your four-legged companion, they'll love the dog-friendly bits like special menus and treats – it's those little touches that make it stand out. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about some dishes not quite hitting the mark, like a dessert that wasn't as generous as before, or portions that left folks wanting a bit more. It can get bustling too, which is great for the atmosphere but might not suit if you're after a peaceful evening. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back get-together; just keep those expectations in check for the finer details, and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, with a cosy open fire and a beautiful front terrace that's perfect for enjoying a drink on a sunny day.
-
They're super dog-friendly, offering a special menu for your furry friends, complete with dog beers and treats – it's a real treat if you're out with your pet.
-
The food is fresh, tasty, and well-presented, with great options like their 2-4-1 deals and breakfast served from as early as 8:30am on weekends.
-
Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality, and there's a free big car park which makes it easy to pop in after a drive.
-
It's in a quiet, nice location not far from Coventry, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with mates.
Cons
-
Some dishes might not live up to expectations every time, like that brownie sundae which one person found disappointing compared to previous visits.
-
Portions can be a bit on the small side for certain items, such as the prawn curry that had just a few prawns when you were hoping for more.
-
It can get really busy, especially on evenings or weekends, which might mean waits for tables or a more lively vibe than you'd prefer for a quiet pint.

Food was fresh, nice decorated, tasty and prices were reasonable.
Free big car park, outside sitting available. Not far from Coventry, in nice and quiet location. Good choice to have a meal /and drink over there.
Chose this place as it wasn't far from Coombe Abbey country park where I meet up with my daughter as it's a half way travel point for us, living in different parts of the country. Also wanted a dog friendly venue where I could take my dog in with me when I dined. Had a lovely Mother's Day meal. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Lovely gesture of a glass of free buck fizz and a cup cake for all the mum's, much appreciated, thank you.
Loved the dog treats menu and so did Daisy 🐕....will definitely be back when in the area again.
Always nice to come here, and the mains are generally lovely, especially at 2-4-1 prices. Disappointed today however that a long-time favourite dessert was a shadow of its former self. The brownie sundae hasn't been served in a sundae glass for a while now for some reason (the Knickerbocker Glory still is), and had reduced in size over the years, but now also in quality. There were 4 small pieces of hard, dry, stale brownie edges that looked like offcuts from a previous day, and which were inedible. This really isn't good enough. Informed the staff when paying, but not sure they were very interested. Had to go to the till to pay as they seem to be understaffed and forget you, but this always seems to be the case.
Came here for a works Christmas meal. Food was served quickly, every dish was well presented and exceeded expectations in terms of quality. Would say that it was money well spent and I have spent time recommending the place to anyone who will listen.
Really nice prawn curry, tender prawns, just too little (only 4 or max of 5). Food was just enough for me.
Apple and berry crumble and a very nice vanilla ice cream.
Nice atmosphere. Really busy for a Wednesday night which shows locals like the food.
Also didn't have my dog with me as I was on a business trip, but how cute is the dog menu and they've got toys for dogs 🐕😍☺️😊
