About This Pub
Ah, The Half Moon in Wolston – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the get-go. Run by a lovely family who clearly pour their heart into it, the food stands out as a real highlight; think divine Sunday roasts with crispy potatoes, thick gravy, and huge Yorkshires that folks can't stop raving about, or those homemade dinners that are cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is just spot on too – it's got that perfect mix of a traditional locals' feel with fun events like live music and themed parties, making it ideal for a casual night out or a special occasion. With a solid 4.6 rating from plenty of happy visitors, it's no wonder people keep coming back for the attentive service and overall charm. On the flip side, though, the limited hours can be a bit of a nuisance; it's shut on Mondays and only does dinners on weekends, so you'll need to plan ahead if you fancy popping by. All in all, it's a gem of a place that does pub grub and vibes right, but just keep those opening times in mind for a smooth visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – those Sunday roasts and homemade dinners are a real treat, with generous portions and flavours that hit the spot every time.
-
The staff are so friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
It's got a lovely relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a catch-up with mates, and they host live music, themed events, and even karaoke to keep things lively.
-
The place is spotlessly clean, with renovated toilets and communal areas that show they've put in the effort to make it comfortable.
-
It's a great value for money, with quality drinks and meals that won't break the bank, especially for a family-run spot in a quaint village.
Cons
-
They're closed on Mondays, so if you're planning a midweek outing, you'll have to look elsewhere.
-
Dinner is only served on Fridays and Saturdays, which might limit your options if you're after a bite on other nights.
-
Bookings are pretty much essential for meals to avoid disappointment, so it's not the easiest for a spontaneous visit.

This place is a gem - amazing food and an absolute bargain! We went for Sunday lunch and had the hit pork scratching from the bar with a pint. Then roast beef with the thickest gravy (gets thicker the later you eat apparently) crispy roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Lots of sides (cauliflower cheese was amazing) and finished with the sticky toffee pudding. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal yesterday for Valentine's day! The food was cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and tasted incredible. The service was spot on, making sure we were well attended to throughout and describing the detail of every course. The team delivered a fantastic menu with a cosy atmosphere for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you!
Heard great things about this Village pub in Wolston, now under new management. We received a warm welcome by the new landlord as we arrived. The attentive staff took our drinks order straight away and showed us to our table. The pub has a lovely relaxed feel and is clean and fresh with some lovely touches in the seating, layout and decor. We had a couple of starters to share and then the Sunday lunch and were super impressed with the quality and generosity of the roast. Crispy onions on the mash, stilton running through the cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, pigs in blankets and succulent roast beef made this one of the best we've had. Can't wait to return to try the mid week sharing platters and burgers. The Half Moon celebrates the best of British pubs with great food and outstanding service....great job everyone!
Beautiful village pub, very friendly staff you really are made to feel welcome.food is absolutely amazing.we will definitely be back
Very very nicely surprised at how good this was. New management has taken over and the Sunday Roast is divine!!
Still has a locals feel in the bar area but a good vibe
Staff are very friendly and attentive
Toilets and communal areas have been renovated and are clean and inviting
Roast was absolutely delicious
Only gripe really was the sides need to be more plentiful (I forgot to take photos) as there wasnt really enough for all of us. Husbands parsnips were also but cold but he got over that
But everything tasted very nice on the plate. Loved options of the mash with onions and the pigs in blankets. Meat is high quality and well cooked. Nothing was cheaped out on.
Genuinely a very nice dinner and we shall go again
