About This Pub

Oh, The Royal Oak's just the ticket if you're after a proper pub experience in Didcot – it's got that easy-going charm where you can pop in for a pint or settle in for some hearty food without breaking the bank. I love how the team there really make an effort to look after everyone, whether you're dealing with dietary needs or planning a little gathering; it's clear from the buzz that folks appreciate the welcoming vibe and all the little extras like watching the footie or enjoying the garden on a sunny day. That said, it does get a tad crowded when things are on, and if you're not an early bird, you might miss out on the kitchen action as it shuts up shop a bit early. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, and I'd say give it a try if you haven't already – you'll likely leave with a smile and maybe even a new favourite local haunt.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, attentive, and ready to go the extra mile, making you feel right at home.
  • The food's a real winner; it's tasty, good value, and they've got options for those with allergies, so it's spot on for a satisfying meal.
  • It's got a welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for families or catching up with mates, with live sports on the telly and a cosy beer garden to boot.
  • They handle events brilliantly, whether it's a birthday bash or a big match, and there are plenty of deals and facilities like free WiFi and outdoor play areas.
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively during events or peak times, which might make it tricky to find a quiet spot if you're after a more relaxed vibe.
  • Food service wraps up fairly early, around 8:30 to 9:00pm most days, so if you're fancying a late-night nosh, you might be out of luck.
  • As a Greene King pub, it has that chain feel, which means it might not have the quirky charm of an independent spot, though it's still reliably enjoyable.

Visited two times last week. The first for drinks and the second for my daughter’s birthday meal. Both times the staff and service were excellent. Drinks and food were both great. Will definitely return. Thank you to all the team! ⭐️

We regularly attend the Royal Oak on a Thursday. As someone with food allergies the GF menu is considerably good and the food always tastes good. Great atmosphere and good service. Definitely recommend a visit if you haven't been as of yet.

We recently hosted a surprise party at The Royal Oak Pub, and it was nothing short of fantastic! From the very start, Jacob, the manager, was absolutely amazing. His communication was excellent throughout the entire process, making sure everything ran smoothly. He went above and beyond, even creating posters with a QR code so guests could request their favorite songs—a brilliant touch! The service was outstanding, with Jacob and his team always happy to help, even assisting with decorations to make the space feel special. Overall, we felt incredibly accommodated and well taken care of. If you’re looking for a venue with great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and a team that truly cares, The Royal Oak is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Able to cater for our large group with adjustments to some of our orders. The food was good and all eaten. The staff both behind the bar and serving were polite approachable and adaptable to our needs and left us wanting for nothing. Would recommend to everyone.
