About This Pub

Ah, the Prince of Wales in Didcot – it's one of those reliable locals that just gets it right for a laid-back outing. From what I've gathered, the staff are proper gems, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that warm, community feel. The food's a winner too; think hearty dishes like fish and chips that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank, and it's dead handy for a quick stop after hopping off the train. Sports lovers will be chuffed with the live screenings of everything from Premier League to rugby, and with the beer garden and dog-friendly policy, it's spot on for families or a sunny afternoon pint. On the flip side, it does have that classic pub charm, which might come across as a tad ordinary if you're in the mood for something more exciting – and those serving times ending early could cramp your style for a proper night out. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub goers looking for good value and a friendly atmosphere, though it might not blow your socks off if you're after bells and whistles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and welcoming, always making you feel right at home – shout out to folks like Brad and Naomi for their top-notch service.
  • It's got a cracking location right near Didcot station, perfect for a quick pint or a bite after a journey.
  • The food is spot on, with tasty options like crispy fish and chips or brownies that hit the spot, and it's all reasonably priced.
  • A great spot for sports fans, showing live action from Sky and TNT Sports, plus it's family-friendly and even dog-friendly with a nice beer garden to relax in.
  • Comfortable seating inside and out, making it ideal for a casual catch-up or watching the big matches like the Women's Euros or rugby tours.
Cons
  • While most visits are positive, it might feel a bit traditional and straightforward for those after something more lively or unique – one person thought it was just okay for a quick drink.
  • Serving hours wrap up around 9pm most days, so it's not the best for late-night munchies or extended evenings.
  • As an inexpensive spot, the amenities are solid but nothing fancy, which could disappoint if you're expecting a more upscale vibe.

Very friendly and welcoming pub. Brad one of the bar staff is very friendly and helpful. I come in 2 to 3 days a week. Good out door set up and comfortable seats inside. I highly recommend the prince of wales.

Great pub just across the road from Didcot station. Good for popping in for a drink or for a good meal throughout the day. You can order at the bar or via the Greene king app. Nice crispy fish for the fish and chips and great service from Naomi.

Lovely food and lovely service. Perfect place to stop after leaving the Figaro Shop. Two mains, two drinks and two brownies cost around £40

A traditional style pub next to the Station. Very friendly staff and a good selection of beverages await the tired traveler. The atmosphere is very casual and pleasant. The convenience of its location adds to the appeal. Recommended for a relaxing drink with the locals.

This was a celebration birthday lunch. The Prince of Wales team gave us each a complementary glass of Prosecco and the service was very friendly and helpful. The whole place fells and looks wonderful, following their major refurbishment. You can always judge how much venues care about customers, by the quality and condition of their toilets/restrooms. Theirs are really lovely and at a quality and condition as one would see in five star hotels. The menus offered a good range of choices and the selections that we made were tasty and well presented. We will definitely be back again and recommend it to others, based on our experience.
