About This Pub

Oh, what can I say about The Royal George? It's one of those hidden gems in the heart of London that just hits the spot for a laid-back pint or a bite with mates. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute stars – always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really sets the tone for a great night out. The food's a winner too, with classic pub grub and craft beers that pair perfectly, especially with those happy hour deals stretching from midday. And let's not forget the quirky décor and live music; it's got that exciting edge with events that keep things fresh and fun, all while being conveniently close to places like Leicester Square. On the flip side, though, it's not without its flaws – some have pointed out that the space can feel a tad tight when it gets busy, and there have been times it's been out of action for renovations, which might put a dampener on plans. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after an authentic pub experience, but it'd be even better if they ironed out those little rough edges to make it consistently brilliant.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • They've got a fantastic selection of classic pub food and craft beers, plus happy hour deals that make it even more enjoyable.
  • The atmosphere is buzzing with live music and events, giving it that lively yet relaxed vibe perfect for catch-ups.
  • It's tucked away in a great spot near iconic London landmarks, making it easy to pop in after exploring the city.
  • The interiors are quirky and dazzling, adding a fun twist to the traditional pub experience.
Cons
  • One downside is that the venue might have some quirks, like potential space issues that could make it feel a bit cramped during busier times.
  • It's had closures in the past due to things like construction, which might mean it's not always as reliable as you'd hope.
  • While the food and drinks are spot on, a few folks have mentioned it could do with a bit more variety or polish in certain areas.

The Royal George, located at 133 Charing Cross Rd, is a split-level pub with a colorful interior and a heated outside space. It offers an eclectic food menu and hosts live music. Here's a summary of what you can expect: Relaxed and welcoming, with friendly staff and a good selection of music. It's not too loud, making it a great place to chat with friends. The food menu has something for everyone and is well-regarded. They have a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including a variety of beers, wines, and spirits. Wheelchair accessible. Conveniently located near many of London's attractions, especially theaters. The Royal George is open late and seems like a great place for a casual and enjoyable pub experience in London. You can find more information and potentially see their menu on their website. p.s. a pint of Guinness here is lovely 🤗

I like the Royal George for a lot of reasons. It's lovely to find a pub like this tucked away in Central London, that it seems not too many people know about so you can usually get a lovely table and enjoy some good drinks. Staff are friendly and charming. My major criticism is that the whole venue seems to have backed away from being explicitly queer-friendly. There used to be more flags and gay-friendly signage. Now it just feels a bit more bland? But hey, it's a decent place!

Fantastic food and great service. If you're lucky, you'll even get to hear the bartender belt out a couple of tunes..

Tucked away down a small side street in Soho is this delightful pub, it is very close to Tottenham Court Road station. It was shut for a few years due to the construction of the Elizabeth Line but reopened three months ago. They do have craft beer on rotation but I opted for a double Makers Mark at £10.30. It has quite a dark interior with a lot of wood panelling and there is exterior seating. They do hold live events in the basement from Tuesday through till Saturday. I was here at 5pm on a Tuesday and it was not busy, however I understand it gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights in particular. I also noticed that a lot of tables were reserved for later in the evening. I did not eat but the food looked good. The service was excellent. A good pub to check out.
