About This Pub

Ah, The Coach & Horses—it's one of those timeless Soho gems that's been pulling in the crowds for years, and you can really feel its history as soon as you walk through the door. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's spot on for a relaxed afternoon or evening with mates, where the friendly faces behind the bar make you feel welcome, and the drink selection is spot on for something a bit special. That historic charm, with nods to literary legends and celebs, gives it a real sense of place that you don't find everywhere. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks—being so compact means it can get a bit squished when it's busy, and those prices might make you wince if you're planning a long session. Still, if you're up for a no-fuss pint in a proper London pub, it's worth a go, just maybe pop in early to snag a spot and keep an eye on your wallet!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that legendary Soho vibe, with a rich history tied to famous folks like The Beatles and Jeffrey Bernard, making every visit feel a bit special.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a cosy catch-up with friends or even bringing along your furry companion for a pint.
  • Staff are friendly and attentive, adding to the charm and making you feel right at home from the moment you step in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from craft beers to cask classics, so there's something to suit most tastes.
Cons
  • The place is on the small side, which can make it feel a tad cramped, especially during busier times when you're jostling for space.
  • Prices can be a bit steep—like forking out over £15 for a rum and cola, which might leave you thinking twice before ordering another round.
  • No table bookings means it's all about luck and timing; you might end up queuing or missing out if it's packed.
  • The atmosphere isn't always buzzing—some folks find it a bit drab at quieter moments, so it might not hit the spot every time.

A fantastic pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere where both people and dogs are made to feel right at home. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Natalia! Definitely going back!

I'm sure this place must be popping at night, and great for a quiet lunchtime drink, but I found this pub to be small, very small, and kinda drab. Ordered a speciality double rum and cola at lunchtime, which shockingly came to £15.70. Bar tender was attentive and friendly, but atmosphere was crap tbh. Toilets were so, so small, clean, but again small, lol. I hate giving bad reviews, so I shall be back at a later date.

An unmissable piece of Soho history. While a semi-regular visitor, this occasion was to see a one-man performance of Jeffrey Barnard Is Unwell in the venue the man himself spent his least-sober moments. Fabulous.

Legendary Soho watering-hole patronised by the likes of Peter Cook, The Beatles, Francis Bacon and, most famously, the columnist Jeffrey Bernard. For years renowned for having London's rudest landlord; I can report that the service is friendly these days, but the period interior remains thankfully unchanged. Owned by Fullers since 2011 who provide a great selection on keg and cask alongside a well stocked fridge. Dog-friendly too.
