About This Pub
You know, I had a wander down to The Red Lion the other day, and it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Milton Keynes. Perched right by the Grand Union Canal, the views from the garden are gorgeous – imagine sipping a cold beer while the boats drift past on a sunny evening. The staff are genuinely welcoming; I heard stories of them bending over backwards to serve food even when they're about to clock off, which is just top-notch service. It's family-friendly too, with options for events like parties or watching the footy, and they've got a decent lineup of drinks to suit all tastes. On the downside, though, the kitchen doesn't always stick to a reliable schedule, so if you're after a bite, it's smart to give them a ring first – one person mentioned being turned away on a Thursday when they expected it to be open. Sometimes it can feel a bit lifeless if it's quiet, and there's no accessible toilet, which might not suit everyone. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates, but keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother visit.
Pros and Cons

Cons

-
The atmosphere can feel a tad quiet at times, especially if it's not busy, which might dampen the fun.
-
No disabled-accessible toilet, which is a shame and could put off some folk who need that facility.
-
Service might come across as abrupt on occasion, based on a few experiences shared by visitors.

We were looking for an evening meal at a cosy pub, but were told quite abruptly that the kitchen "doesn't open on a Thursday", despite there being menus on the tables.
There were very few other patrons, so there was no atmosphere at all - maybe we were just unlucky.
Beautiful location though, and after one drink we took a walk along the canal path to find somewhere else to eat.
Not far way from the Milton Keynes centre you can find this classic pub.
It's everything you can expect from a independent and traditional British pub. A bar with the draft beers and fridges with wines, a small kitchen, people playing domino or darts, the Tele for watching the rugby or football matches, the benches outside close to the canal.
And for locals, it's a familiar spot in the neighborhood.
For foreigners, it's a must to do!
I visited this pub whilst enjoying a canal boating holiday. The staff were pleasant, the food was great, very accommodating the only blemish was the lack of a disabled-accessible toilet.
Loved this place from the first time I saw it. The garden and the canal are a perfect place to spend a lovely night with loved ones. Cold beer with a nice view. 🍻🤗
We stopped off here on Friday evening around 7pm as we were staying locally. We were told the kitchen was just about to close but the lady said she would stay on to make us some food. The food was tasty and it was nice to sit outside and watch the canal boats and the lock open.
The girl serving behind the bar was lovely. She was really friendly and polite.
