About This Pub

Ah, The Chequers – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a relaxed evening out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place is run with real care and thought, creating that lovely, homely atmosphere where you can chat away with mates over a pint. The beer selection is a highlight, with a good mix of local brews and craft options that won't break the bank, and I've heard the staff are absolute stars, always on hand to make you feel welcome without any bother. It's got all those classic pub touches too, like a cosy wood burner and free games to keep things entertaining. On the flip side, it's not the spot if you're hoping for a proper meal – they keep it simple with just pork pies and nibbles, which are nice enough but might leave you wanting more if you're peckish. And while the drinks are top-notch, the cask ale choices can be a tad limited sometimes, so it's worth checking if you're after something specific. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after an authentic pub experience in Milton Keynes, with plenty of charm to outweigh the minor drawbacks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's warm, welcoming, and feels like a proper local hangout where you can relax and unwind.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, including local ales, craft options, and even some fantastic Milton Keynes-sourced rums like that pineapple one, all at really reasonable prices with pints under £4.
  • The staff are brilliant and always attentive, going out of their way to make sure you're looked after without any fuss.
  • It's packed with fun extras like a wood burner for cosy evenings, a free jukebox, and games such as darts, making it a lively spot for a good time.
  • Even without a full menu, the pork pies and classic pub snacks are a treat, especially with chutney and pickled onions to nibble on.
Cons
  • It's a bit limited on the food front, with no proper meals on offer – just those pork pies and snacks, so if you're after a hearty dinner, you might need to look elsewhere.
  • The cask ale selection can be on the slim side at times, like only having a couple on tap, which might disappoint if you're a real ale enthusiast seeking more variety.

Fantastic pub, well run and a lot of thought gone into things. Nothing ever any hassle for the staff! Lovely atmosphere.

Proper pub. Don't do food (other than pork pies), great atmosphere, great beer and cheaper than anything around here. The two lads that run the pub are always attentive to your needs and do their very best to make you welcome. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Nice pub to visit prior to a pleasant afternoon at Franchise FC. Well kept beers, although only 2 cask ales on tap on a Saturday. Good choice of craft beers and a stunning range of Moonshines, which were highly recommended by the helpful barman.

Fantastic local pub with the focus on local. They have a good range of draught beers and some fantastic ales both local and more well known brands. The Milton Keynes sourced rums are also fantastic (the pineapple rum is very good). You can grab a pork pie platter for under a fiver and all pints are under £4. They have plenty of seating, a fire roaring when it's cold and a dartboard which is always a big plus in a pub these days. If you live locally and haven't been down, The Chequers is well worth a look. They also out on quiz nights, discos, live music and cheese nights so there's bound to be something for everyone throughout the month. (Pics are from the outdoor dartboard not the bar).

Not a real food menu but serve local pork pies (monty pieman from bucks) with chutney, pickled onions and local cheese as classic pub snack! Pints are less than £4 with a range of guest pours too. Wood burner fire. Free juke box. Free games to play. Darts board and further darts room. A real classic listed building pub with character and local characters. Can also bring your own take away from the high street supporting local business. Dog friendly too.
