About This Pub
Ah, The Red Herring – it's one of those pubs that really stands out in Chorley for its welcoming feel and solid drinks selection. From the reviews I've had a look at, most folks are buzzing about the friendly owner and the great atmosphere, which makes it a top choice for a casual night out. You've got all the classics here: a big screen to catch the footie, pool tables for a bit of fun, and darts if you're in the mood for some friendly competition. The beers are spot on too, with plenty of options that go down a treat, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank, which is always a win in my book. On the flip side, though, a few people have mentioned the music being cranked up way too loud, which can make it tough to have a proper catch-up over your pint – you might end up outside just to hear yourself think. And there's that odd review about the owner not always being the easiest to deal with, which is a bit of a shame because it could sour an otherwise great visit. Overall, if you're after a lively spot with good vibes and games, it's worth a go, but maybe skip it if you're hoping for a quiet, relaxed chat.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The owner and staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a proper local spot.
-
They've got a great selection of beers and ales that hit the spot every time.
-
Plenty of entertainment on offer, like a big screen for watching the match, plus pool tables and dart boards to keep things lively.
-
Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a few drinks without worrying about the wallet.
-
It's got a warm, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening with friends.
Cons
-
The music can be turned up a bit too high, making it hard to have a proper chat without shouting.
-
There have been some reports of the owner being inconsistent, which might leave you feeling uneasy if things don't go smoothly.
-
It doesn't seem to serve food, or at least it's not clear from what I've heard, so you might need to head elsewhere for a bite.

good at first, if you’re on the landlords side then everything is good and you’re having a great time then all of a sudden even if you haven’t done a thing wrong you’ll become a target. that’s a common theme at this pub the owner always has someone to blame for the trouble. if you’re on his good side he’s a great guy. when they suddenly turn on you it’s different and you feel very unwelcome. the owner constantly bans people who haven’t done anything wrong just to feed his ego and i have seen this first hand. if you’re just popping in for a few every now and then this pub is fine. if you’re looking to find a new pub to be regular to this is a must avoid. there are better more welcoming places in coppull like the wheatsheaf who actually appreciates the money you spend and doesn’t treat you like dirt on the floor
Nice pub and the owners a nice guy don't know if place serves food
Well established free house, Ste is a friendly guy, big screen and great beer
Came in for a quick pint with a friend. We got served quickly. Prices are good. Music playing was good. Would definitely come here for a quick pint again. Some gambli machines, dart board, pool table and a few kids toy machines.
It's a nice pub to visit with a warm, friendly atmosphere, good ale and plenty of seating.
The only downside is that they have the music far too loud and you can barely hear yourself think, so it's not much good for meeting up with friends for a quiet chat over a drink, unless you want to sit outside, or you're not stopping long before heading out.
