About This Pub

Ah, The Raven in Hexton – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's got this warm, family-friendly vibe that's spot on for a relaxed day out. The staff really shine through; they're attentive and make sure you're looked after, even when the place is buzzing, which it often is since it's so popular with the locals. The menu's full of classic pub fare that's comforting and nostalgic – think steak and chips or a good old prawn cocktail – and it's generally good value, especially if you're tucking into a meal in their nice garden on a sunny day. But let's be honest, it's not without its little niggles; sometimes things like the beef can be a bit fatty, and if it's packed, you might have to wait a tad for your food. Still, overall, it's a solid spot for a pint and a bite, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with the flow and enjoy the charm of the place.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a cosy, relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for a laid-back meal or a catch-up with mates.
  • The food is solid pub grub with a good variety on the menu, including classics that bring back fond memories.
  • They've got a lovely garden area where you can soak up the sunshine with a meal and a drink.
  • Excellent service even when it's busy, with food arriving in reasonable time and staff going the extra mile.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, which might mean a bit of a wait for your food, though it doesn't seem to drag on too much.
  • Some dishes have had minor issues, like fatty beef in one case, so it's not always spot-on.
  • The food is pretty basic and straightforward – great for what it is, but if you're after something fancy, it might not hit the mark.

We were looking for a pub with a garden so we could get a meal and enjoy the sunshine. The Raven was very busy, and we were told that there could be a bit of a wait for food when we ordered. However the food arrived in good time, excellent service and we were well looked after by staff. Enjoyed th ultimate burger and a nice dessert, nice relaxing meal after our dog walk. Thank you to all at the Raven.

Good value for money and excellent service. Slight downside was the fatty beef otherwise a really enjoyable lunch. The staff were extremely helpful in organising take away meals for our elderly family member. Look forward to returning soon.

16Aug2024. Food is basic, properly home-cooked standard pub meals. There is a wide menu of the pub classics, being variations on a few main themes. Choosing traditional pub meals of the 1980s is a very rewarding nostalgia: prawn cocktail, steak & chips, raspberry merguine. Beer is kept in good condition. Outstanding value.

Visited on a wet Saturday night in late September. Warm welcome from the hostess and seated at a nice table. Good atmosphere from the nearly full pub, obviously a popular eating place for the locals. My wife had hunters chicken which she enjoyed and I had the steak suet pudding which was a delight (worth the trip alone). The beer was good too. The bill was just over £40 which I thought was good value. Prompt, friendly and efficient service from the young waiting staff. All in all I would be happy to eat here again if we are ever in the area. Recommended.
