About This Pub

Ah, The Cannon – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the moment you step inside. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant community feel, like it's the beating heart of Stopsley, with folks raving about the amazing pizzas, curries, and even a smashing afternoon tea that had me thinking it could rival a proper café. The staff sound like absolute gems, always on hand to make you feel welcome, and there's a cracking selection of drinks to choose from, whether you're after a cold lager or something a bit fancier. Pop out to the garden on a sunny day, and you'll find it's clean as a whistle with regular service to boot. But, let's keep it real, it's not without its quirks – no website means you might have to wing it on the hours, and with varying Sunday schedules, you could end up disappointed if you're not prepared. Plus, being unclaimed, it might lack that extra polish some places have. Still, with a solid 4.0 rating from plenty of happy visitors, I'd say it's well worth a punt for a good night out with friends, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is a real highlight – think amazing pizzas, tasty curries, and even delightful afternoon teas that leave you wanting more.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere with live sports, great music, and a clean, well-done-up interior that makes for a proper enjoyable night out.
  • A fantastic selection of drinks, including chilled ciders, lagers, spirits, and beers, plus a nice garden area that's kept spotless and serviced regularly.
  • It's buzzing with community spirit, feeling like the heart of the area and perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
Cons
  • No website or online presence makes it a bit tricky to check opening times or menus before heading out.
  • The operating hours can vary a tad, especially on Sundays, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit.
  • With the business unclaimed, it might not be as polished in terms of updates or special events as some other spots.
  • While the reviews are mostly glowing, the overall rating of 4.0 suggests there could be the odd off day or mixed experiences not captured here.

Heard good things so randomly went last night may 24 The double barrells know known as The Cannon, is clean, done up very nicely and has live sports lots of decent drink offerings and the imitable Dean Blackett playing tunes , everything top notch We had tandoori chicken wings curried goat, pilau rice and garlic and coriander naan Food wise it was in the top 3 curries I have ever had Absolutely beautifully cooked Everything about it was tasty fresh etc The rice was almost fluffy So it would have been 5 stars When we ordered they advised the goat curry would take 45 minutes Fair enough The reality was 2 hours This is unacceptable But the food was that great I will return

Pleasantly surprised. My local which I hadn't used before that was made to feel welcome by some excellent friendly staff and good beer. Will definitely be paying more visits soon. UPDATE The new landlady is awesome and is working hard to make this a family boozer. Great work 👍🏻 Apparently they will be getting an outside refresh and the name might be changing too?

Lovely pub relaxed atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming bar staff. It was nice to see fully stocked fridges with a good selection of chilled ciders and lagers. Huge choice of spirits and beers. Sat in the garden, which, might I add was very clean - bar staff came out to clear empty glasses regularly. Food is fresh, made on the premises - very tasty burgers. They have had a birthday party and several wakes held there, always handy to know. In general the pub was very clean, and tidy, including the toilets!!!!!
