About This Pub
Ah, The Rat & Pigeon – what a gem tucked away in Manchester! From what I've gathered chatting about it with mates, it's got that warm, welcoming feel that's perfect for a casual catch-up over a pint. The beer selection stands out as a real highlight; they've got some cracking cask ales that beer lovers rave about, and the prices won't break the bank either. Plus, with all those live music events and gigs lined up, it's buzzing with energy – imagine catching an underground band or a fun night out without the hassle of big crowds. The staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that homely vibe. On the flip side, a few folks have mentioned the beer choices can feel a bit limited if you're after something more adventurous, and it does have that straightforward locals' pub charm, which might not appeal if you're in the mood for something fancier. Overall, it's a brilliant little spot for anyone wanting a genuine, down-to-earth experience in Manchester – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good company, decent drinks, and a bit of live action, but keep in mind it might not be the place for a wild night out.

Cons
-
Some folks find the beer options a bit limited, so if you're after a huge variety, it might not quite satisfy.

It has that classic locals' boozer atmosphere, which is great if you fancy a cosy spot, but it could feel a tad ordinary if you're seeking something more upscale.
-
A couple of reviews mentioned it being average overall, so it might not wow everyone, especially if you're expecting bells and whistles.

Called in for a pint to view the rebirth of this lovely little boozer. Very nice upgrade with consideration for it's murderous history. Didn't even notice that white door in the corner lead up to two others floors. The male toilets appear untouched and that adds to the charm of the place. Dogs allowed I noticed.
I like the double doored side entrance and cellar trap doors. Glad they have been left as they were.
Not very trendy for an old fart who likes his pints around Manchester.
Nice.
Back alley historic pub that has embraced the atmosphere of the original establishment. The Rat and Pigeon has a great selection of hand pulled beers, perfect for a quick stop if you're in the area. They have also started to get live music playing. A whole host of indy musicians are on the line up. Definitely worth a look.
A strong cask lineup from the 3 beers on sale. One road back from Piccadilly and you’re in another world. A great addition to the local ale scene v
I do not fully understand why this pub rates as high as it does. I found it to be very average. The beer options were, in my opinion, limited. I do agree with other reviews that the staff were super friendly. It gave off a locals’ boozer feel. Maybe that is why folks like it so much.
My new favourite boozer in Manchester. Lovely staff and great choice of beers. Prices are very decent. Have been here now four times since it’s opened and I’ll be coming back a lot more. Jukebox is top notch.
