About This Pub
Ah, The Punchbowl – it's one of those classic village pubs that you stumble upon and think, 'This could be a hidden gem.' From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got some real winners going for it; the food sounds brilliant when they're serving it up, with folks going on about delicious dinners and adaptable menus that cater to all sorts. The staff come across as genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure you're sorted, which gives it that proper community feel in a historic old building with loads of space inside and out. Plus, it's spot on if you're with the dog or the family, and they've got a good range of beers to keep things flowing. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides – one review mentioned they weren't serving food anymore, which is a bit of a letdown if that's what you're after. It can get awfully quiet, even on what should be lively weekends, and with the landlords not always in sight and the telly blaring football, it might not hit the mark for a more relaxed or vibrant night out. All in all, if you're in the area and fancy a straightforward, friendly spot, I'd say give it a go, but maybe check first if they're doing food – it's got that homely charm, but it's best enjoyed with the right expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious when it's available, with reviewers raving about hearty meals like the best burgers and homemade coleslaw – it's a real treat for a pub grub fan.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, with one chap even mentioning how helpful they were with special requests.
-
It's got a lovely local pub atmosphere in an old building full of history, plus plenty of indoor and outdoor space, including a large free car park which is a bonus.
-
They've got a decent selection of beers on tap, and the menu's flexible for different dietary needs, which is spot on if you're picky or have restrictions.
-
Dog-friendly and family-oriented, perfect if you're popping in with your furry mate or little ones for a relaxed visit.
Cons
-
It seems they don't always serve food, which is a real shame as that's a big draw for some, leaving you with just drinks if you're after a bite.
-
The atmosphere can be a bit lacking, especially on weekends when you'd expect it buzzing, but it's often quiet and feels underwhelming.
-
The landlords aren't always around or visible, which might make the place feel a tad unattended at times.
-
With the TV on constantly for football, it might not suit everyone – great if you're a fan, but otherwise, it could spoil the cosy vibe.

Could do better, doesn't serve food, no atmosphere, been in weekends when you would expect it to be busy but no very quiet, landlords nowhere to be see. If you're a dog or football lover you're fine as dogs allowed & TV on constantly. Shame for a village pub. Pity they have little or no competition otherwise they might up their game.
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Always an enjoyable evening
We have visited several times for a drink and once for food. A friendly place with a reasonable selection of drinks. Several good beers on tap. The food menu is adaptable - the chef will adjust for any dietary requirements, which is really helpful
Second time in a fortnight me and my wife have been for dinner........had two great meals. Just had the best burger and home made coleslaw I can remember. Staff are really friendly and it has the feel of a nice local pub. Looking forward to eating there in summer with our little one.
Very nice pub with lovely food. An old building with lots of history attached. Large free carpark and lots of indoor and outside space to eat and drink. The staff are kind and friendly and Sarah who spoke to us today was very helpful with our requests. I would come here again, you try it, I don't think you will be disappointed.
I have been in again today for a homemade Chicken and Mushroom pie, which again was brilliant, so I will now give The Punchbowl a 5 rating which I don't give lightly. Well done to all the staff
