About This Pub

You know, when you're looking for a proper pub that feels like a home away from home, The Newdigate Arms really hits the spot. It's tucked away in West Hallam and does a brilliant job of being family-friendly, with menus that cater to all tastes – from light bites to hearty Sunday roasts that are just spot on. The food stands out; I've heard rave reviews about their burgers and chips, and the desserts are generous enough to share, which is always a win. The staff are lovely, too, going out of their way to make sure you're comfortable, even when things are hectic. On the downside, it can get pretty lively and noisy, especially if you're after a quiet pint, and parking might leave you circling a bit on busier days. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual meal or catch-up with mates, as long as you're prepared for the crowds – the good vibes and great grub make it worth the visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious with generous portions – think amazing burgers, fluffy chips, and desserts like the biscoff cheesecake that's big enough to share.
  • Staff are super friendly and efficient, even when it's packed, making everyone feel right at home.
  • It's a proper family-friendly spot with a warm, inviting atmosphere, complete with a cosy fireplace in winter and a sunny beer garden in summer.
  • They've got a brilliant Sunday carvery that's a real treat, with succulent meats and fresh veg, perfect for a relaxed family feast.
Cons
  • Parking can be a right faff when it's busy, as the place gets packed and spaces are limited.
  • It can get quite noisy and crowded, especially on weekends or bank holidays, which might make it feel a bit overwhelming at times.
  • There might be a wait for tables or slight delays in service during peak hours, even though the team works hard to keep things moving.

Food was well presented hot & didn't take long to arrive. Was busy but got seared quickly. Prices about average for the current times. Parking was not the best only as it was very busy. Other than that a good experience & will visit again.

Been here often recently after receiving a gift card. The food is lovely and has great portion sizes. Would definitely recommend the biscoff cheesecake for dessert and it is definitely big enough to share. It comes fully loaded. We often have burgers but the chips are amazing. Perfectly fluffy but crunchy. Can’t wait to return.

Lovely place. Polite staff. I had the Bacon and Blue cheese burger and I've never tasted anything like it. It was absolutely amazing

Visited bank holiday Monday and it was manic! This did not prevent us from enjoying our visit, albeit a very noisy one. Staff were predominantly young females who jelled well as an impressive, highly efficient and hardworking team. Although some delays on service due to such a high volume of guests (we had reserved a table in advance), this did not stop staff affording us as much time as we needed to make our menu selections. Our food was delivered, piping hot, aesthetically presented and was absolutely delicious. My only gripe was the beef and ale pie that I and another guest ate, was way too salty, but as it was so delicious, we both eagerly ate it all. We paid the price later by having an incredible thirst! I will certainly return, although will select a quieter day and hope the pie is less salty as I'd really love to enjoy that again.

Update 13/04/24 - came for food and wasn't disappointed! An extremely popular place, resulting in a 45 minute wait for a table. It was worth the wait though! All courses were well presented, tasty and served relatively quickly. Cracking service too. Will definitely be returning. This is a tough one to rate as I only popped in for a drink. What I did see, though, was an extremely busy bar. The food was served quickly and tasted great too. Staff and the landlady were really friendly too. Will be returning and will be trying their food.
