About This Pub

Ah, The Porchester – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of West London, tucked away near Bayswater and Royal Oak. I've got to say, it's a fantastic place for a casual catch-up over some well-poured pints or a cheeky cocktail in their secret garden; the vibe is just so inviting and full of energy, especially during the pub quiz nights, which are an absolute riot with friendly hosts and a chance to win a few prizes. The Sunday roasts come highly recommended and sound like a proper treat, with plenty of positive nods to the fish and chips and desserts too. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of meals falling flat, like salads that lack a bit of punch or gnocchi that's underwhelming, and there was that one horror story about waiting ages for subpar food, which is a shame when you're hoping for a seamless experience. Overall, it's a solid choice for drinks and atmosphere, but maybe play it safe with the menu if you're popping in for a bite. I'd still give it a go; it's got that warm, community spirit that makes you want to return for another round.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing – it's got that perfect mix of traditional charm and modern vibes, making it a brilliant spot to unwind with mates.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from craft beers to wines and spirits, and the secret garden is a real hidden gem for a relaxed pint.
  • The pub quiz on Wednesdays is a highlight; it's loads of fun with friendly hosts and prizes up for grabs, ideal for a midweek get-together.
  • Food hits the mark in many ways, especially the Sunday roasts, which folks rave about as the best in West London, along with solid options like fish and chips and desserts.
  • Service is top-notch with welcoming staff who make you feel right at home, adding to that cosy, community feel.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit hit or miss; some dishes like salads or gnocchi have been described as flavourless, so it's worth sticking to the crowd-pleasers.
  • There have been reports of long waits and disappointing meals, like overcooked fish and chips, which might leave you a tad frustrated on a busy day.
  • It's in a prime location, but that means it can get quite packed, making it tricky to find a table during peak times.

i rly like this pub for drinks (the secret garden is fun!!) but unfortunately the food was a bit a mid. maybe it’s on me for ordering the salad which i think have been v tasty with some balsamic vinegar, but just didn’t a taste of much. the gnocchi as well was a bit flavourless. would def be back for some drinks tho!!

We had a really great time at the pub quiz on Wednesday night. Omar is a super friendly host who didn’t mind giving a little help to a couple of Americans way out of their depth on British trivia. Great atmosphere, great food and drink, and a very fun night. Happy Birthday Omar!

Great atmosphere and great service. We had our usual fish n chips and burger plus all the 3 desserts listed (sticky toffee pudding, brownie and apple crumble). Also tried the starter pig croquette for the first time. What made the dining more fantastic was the pub quiz - we had a great time!

Fantastic food and atmosphere, love how this pub looks on the inside. My second time having lunch at The Porchester. Took visiting family there as it was near home and was happy with my previous experience. I ordered the bavette steak which was cooked perfectly. My sister said her fish and chips was also delicious, and the burger and pork dishes which the rest of our group had was also tasty. Our server Grace was very attentive.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We decided to go to this pub for lunch today, and we deeply regret it. We ordered three fish and chips, which is a pretty standard dish, but after waiting 30 minutes for it to arrive, none of us could believe what we were served. The fish smelled absolutely rotten and was mostly just a pile of crispy bread crumbs—probably 90% of the dish was just that. On top of that, the staff were extremely unhelpful and rude. Avoid this place at all costs!
