About This Pub

Ah, the Prince Alfred – it's one of those classic London pubs that's been around since 1851, tucked away on Queensway, and it really feels like a slice of old-school Britain with its lively atmosphere and community spirit. I love how they've got live music going most nights, creating that perfect backdrop for a relaxed evening with mates, and the staff are just top-notch, always popping over with a smile to make sure everything's alright. The drinks menu is a winner too, offering everything from smooth cask ales to a wide array of gins and wines that cater to all tastes. On the food front, dishes like bangers and mash or their homemade burgers can be spot on when they're good, and it's a bonus that it's pet-friendly for those who want to bring their dog along. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – some portions feel a bit skimpy, and prices can seem steep for what's on the plate, especially if the quality isn't up to scratch, like with reports of dry burgers or the odd service mix-up that leaves you waiting around. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's clear most people have a great time, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to the drinks if you're not in the mood for any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant, with live music from Wednesday to Sunday that really brings the place to life and makes for a fantastic night out.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always checking in to ensure you're having a good time, which adds a warm, welcoming vibe.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from traditional cask ales and lagers to gins and wines from around the world – perfect for a proper pub session.
  • The food hits the spot for classic pub grub, like delicious bangers and mash or homemade burgers, and it's great that it's pet-friendly too, so you can bring your furry mate along.
  • It's a real community hub in Bayswater, where locals and visitors mix easily, making it easy to strike up conversations and feel right at home.
Cons
  • Some meals can be a bit on the small side, which might leave you wanting more, especially if you're after a hearty feed.
  • Prices feel a tad high for what you get, with things like fish and chips coming across as overpriced compared to the quality.
  • Food quality can be hit or miss – a few folks have mentioned dry burgers or even finding hair in their dish, which puts a damper on things.
  • Service can sometimes be disorganised, particularly with group reservations, leading to confusion and a less than smooth experience.
  • While the overall vibe is great, it's not always consistent, with some saying the food is just average and nothing to write home about.

Just had an early dinner here tonight & we were pleasantly surprised that our meals were so delicious. I had bangers & mash & my friend had nachos. Both meals were piping hot & had great flavour. We found the sizes on the smaller side but that suited us perfectly. Prices were reasonable & in line with the portion size. Staff were friendly & helpful. No complaints & may call in again during our stay in beautiful Bayswater

Really disappointed. Confused servise with bad organisation. We made group reservation with meal pre-order even before we get here and still there were problems. High prices and food was horrible. Burger was completely dry, my friend had hair in his food. Food plating was like in some bistro. Chicken wings were poor too … I don’t want to be nitpicker but I expected something different for that money. Our whole group done their meal and it took to employees like 20-30minutes to pick dishes from tables. They charge extra 4% for the service. Yes it is written below the menu, I know but for what? Drink orders right on the bar, service didn’t even smile on us and the food review I already mentioned. One pros - THE BEER - as a guy from Czech can appreciate at least this one. Live music and atmosphere is also nice and needed to be mentioned but there’s a lot of things need to be improved. Maybe bad day. Maybe bad timing. I just wanted to share my experience in this pub.

Regular food but nothing special. Fish and chips was a bit overpriced for the quality found. The place is good to have a beer though

I went to other pubs in London but I kept returning to this one. The staff, the pints, the food, the entertainment, and the atmosphere are all excellent. I was a tourist who met locals and made friends quickly. You seriously want to experience a real London pub, visit this one. This American will be back. PS, try the bangers.

The atmosphere here is unmatched—better than anything else around. They host live music from Wednesday to Sunday, creating the perfect vibe for any night out. Pet friendly. No cash! The staff is amazing—super friendly and attentive. They genuinely care about your experience, checking in to make sure you’re comfortable without letting things get out of hand. They’re also incredibly mindful of creating a safe environment, always staying alert to prevent any harassment. It’s a place where you can truly relax and enjoy yourself.
