About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Plough in Sleapshyde – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper gem in St Albans. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, the food is top-notch; folks rave about the Sunday roasts being spot on, with juicy meats and all the trimmings, and other dishes like sea bream and burgers that are cooked to perfection with clever flavours that keep things exciting. The vibe is lovely too, with a cosy interior featuring a fireplace that makes it feel welcoming on a rainy day, and that garden area is a real winner – heated and covered so you can make the most of it year-round. It's brilliant for groups, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or planning something bigger like a wedding, and being dog-friendly means you can bring the furry family along. On the downside, a couple of reviews mentioned service being a tad slow at times, like waiting ages for drinks, which could be a bit frustrating if you're after a swift pint. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.5, it's clear most people have a cracking time here, so I'd say it's well worth a visit for a relaxed meal or catch-up with friends – just maybe give yourself a bit of extra time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – think mouthwatering Sunday roasts, tasty burgers, and fresh seasonal dishes that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a gorgeous garden that's partly covered and heated, perfect for enjoying a pint even on those nippy winter days.
  • Being dog-friendly and child-friendly adds a nice touch, making it a great spot for family outings or a casual meet-up with mates.
  • The cosy interior with a fireplace and spaces for groups or events like weddings makes it ideal for all sorts of gatherings.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes be a bit slow or lacklustre, like when drinks take a while to arrive, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a hurry.

Had a great meal at The Plough in Sleapshyde. Really tasty food, the Sunday roast was spot on. Staff were super friendly and made us feel really welcome. Lovely garden area and dog-friendly, which was a bonus. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

A beautiful, calm pub with superb food and service, good wine and beers, good music. Ordered sea bream and the burger - we absolutely loved both; fish perfectly cooked (and seasoned!) of course and lovely subtle flavours, and crispy broccoli with a sauce that softly brought it all together. All unpretentious. Must try the Allotment Soup next too!!

We hosted our wedding here in April and it was absolutely bloody brilliant. The pub is stunning, the food insanely good, the cocktails amazing and the staff are the friendliest bunch of hospitality people you'll ever meet. 10/10 a perfect day ❤️

Had a delicious lunch here on Sunday, the place is very lovely, well kept, and very clean and tidy. I will definitely go back. How ever the service was just lacking, it took 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, a shandy and a virgin Mary. All the service on the day just seems lacklustre. Nothing seemed urgent, there were plenty of staff, but they were not very attentive.

Amazing the food was lovely. Totally going back, think it might be our new favourite place. The burger I had was amazing and the triple fried chips were the best I have had! The burger was also amazing and it was unbelievable how tasty the mushrooms were in the mushroom parfait and sourdough bread! My 2 year old loved his pasta and some of my chips! Planning on going back for the Sunday roast! My wife is already planning on going with her friends next week, sadly without me.
