About This Pub
You know, chatting about The Phantom Coach in Coventry, it's one of those pubs that really tries to make you feel at home with its warm welcomes and commitment to fresh, fairly priced grub – think sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers that hit the spot without emptying your wallet. It's lovely how they're part of the community, pitching in with charities and opening up their function space for locals, which gives it that extra heart. From what I've gathered, most folks rave about the affordable deals and friendly faces, especially when the team goes above and beyond, like sorting out a bowl of water for a pup. But, on the flip side, it's not all perfect; there are times when service dips a bit or the food doesn't quite measure up, with complaints about stale bits in salads or dishes that look better on the menu than on the plate. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating overall, it's worth popping in for a relaxed meal with friends – just keep in mind it might have an off day here and there, so maybe go with an open mind and enjoy the good bits.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Great value for money with meals like the full English coming in at just £5.99, making it a budget-friendly spot for a proper feed.
-
The staff are generally warm and welcoming, with some going the extra mile, like providing water for dogs to ensure everyone's comfortable.
-
A good variety of fresh ingredients on the menu, including options for vegetarians and vegans, which is spot on for different tastes.
-
It's deeply involved in the local community, helping with fundraising and offering their function area for free, which adds a nice community vibe.
-
Ample parking and a traditional pub atmosphere with a bit of extra sizzle, perfect for catching up with mates over food and drinks.
Cons
-
Service can be hit or miss, with some staff not quite as cheerful, like that one instance where a waitress seemed a bit off.
-
Food quality isn't always consistent, with reports of items like salads not being fresh or running out of popular choices like ribs.
-
Portion sizes and presentation sometimes fall short, as seen with the mixed grill that didn't quite live up to its mouthwatering description.
-
Occasional waits or issues like missing ingredients can disrupt the experience, making it feel a tad unreliable on busier days.

Amazing food and service, only £5.99 for this full English!
Thank you kiarra, Rhiannon and Isaac for your impeccably service and also ensuring my dog was comfortable by providing a bowl of water for him
Really good value for money and tasty food. Ample parking once you get in the car park with quirky road layout! One waitress wasn't very happy but others were ok
I have been here a few times for a meal and never had a bad one. But on the 18th April decided to book at short notice and no problem getting a table. I had a traditional mega mixed grill, and quite disappointed with its presentation and portion sizes, the menu reads a mouthwatering option but a single baby tomoto and 3 sorry looking button mushrooms is all that complimented the mixed grill main meats. Onion rings saved the dish and the skin on fries were delicious. The traditional meals on the menu seem to have less effort put in to them these days. Will be taking a break from sizzling steak houses for a bit.
It's OK. We chose meals and went up to order but they didn't have any ribs so had to go away and rethink. Had to wait to reorder whilst the barman finished chatting to his friend. Ordered orange juice and lemonade but they didn't have any orange juice. Food was OK, though steak was ordered rare and came medium. Fine for some quick food but only 1 step up from a Wetherspoons.
Prices are reasonable but quality is not that good. As you can see from the photo of the salad, the lettuce has turned brown on edges meaning that it was not fresh, probably already chopped and left for a number of days. Fortunately we did not suffer any ill health after eating it. The new apple pie was not presentable as a restaurant dish as the crust on top was all missing. The deep fried mushrooms were overdone so they were hard rather being crispy. Suggest management to work on their food better despite their prices being lower.
