About This Pub

Ah, King Carveries in Coventry – what a gem for anyone craving a solid, traditional pub experience. I've got to say, the carvery really steals the show; it's all about those generous portions of hand-carved meats, perfectly roasted potatoes, and fresh seasonal veg that leave you feeling well looked after. The staff are just lovely, always polite and professional, making it easy to see why folks keep coming back for more. It's got that family-friendly charm with options for vegans, veggies, and those with gluten sensitivities, plus extras like a beer garden for al fresco pints and live sport to catch with mates. On the flip side, though, you might find the odd hiccup with some veg not quite cooked to perfection, or if you're running late, certain carvery choices could be off the menu. Still, with fair pricing and things like quiz nights and free pool, it's a brilliant spot for a midweek treat or weekend wind-down – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is an absolute treat – freshly carved meats, crispy roast potatoes, and all the trimmings make for a hearty, satisfying meal that's perfect for a proper Sunday roast or any day of the week.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home, with special mentions for chefs like Rob and Leo who cater to individual needs.
  • It's a family-friendly spot with a cosy atmosphere, complete with a beer garden, live sport on the screens, and options for everyone including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free choices.
  • Plenty of extras to enjoy, like real ales, a dart board, pool table, and even free pool on Mondays or quiz nights on Tuesdays – great for a fun evening out.
  • The recent refurbishment has given it a fresh, inviting look, and it's wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly, and has outdoor seating for those sunny days.
Cons
  • Some sides might not always hit the mark, like the carrots being a tad undercooked in one visit, which could disappoint if you're after perfectly done veg.
  • If you pop in late for the carvery, you might miss out on certain meats like gammon or turkey, as options can run low towards the end of service.
  • Food service wraps up at 9 pm, even though the pub stays open later, so it's worth planning ahead if you're aiming for a meal followed by drinks.

I had a beef carvery late on Thursday and it was lovely. Apparently I was too late to enjoy the gammon and turkey. I had mash, roast potatoes, peas, sweetcorn and gravy and the usual sauces mint cranberry and mint. Carrots were a bit hard but I enjoyed it.
