About This Pub

Oh, Varsity is one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Coventry – you know, the kind where you pop in for a quick bite and end up staying for hours chatting away. I have to say, the staff are absolute stars; they're always polite and eager to help, which really makes the place shine. The food's a treat too – their pizzas and burgers are spot on, and the breakfast deals are generous and tasty, leaving you feeling chuffed without breaking the bank. Plus, with a great range of drinks and that inviting beer garden, it's perfect for a sunny afternoon or catching up with friends over a pint. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the dinner options not being the best value, so you might want to stick to lunch or breakfast if you're watching the pennies. And it can be a bit subdued during quieter times, which isn't ideal if you're after a lively buzz. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing, but just keep those little niggles in mind to make the most of your visit – I'd definitely pop back for another go!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is a real highlight – think delicious pizzas, burgers, and a cracking breakfast that offers great value, especially in the mornings.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, from tasty ales and cocktails to wines, perfect for catching up with mates.
  • It's got a lovely community vibe, with a beer garden, outdoor area, and even being dog-friendly, which makes it ideal for a relaxed day out.
  • Plenty of perks like free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, and a rewards app that lets you earn points for your visits.
Cons
  • The value for money on the dinner menu can be a bit off, as some folks find it doesn't quite live up to the price tag.
  • It might feel a tad quiet during off-peak times, like early evenings mid-week, so the atmosphere isn't always buzzing.
  • There's an age restriction after 9pm, meaning it's not the best spot for family outings that run late into the evening.

Me and my husband visited recently as we were staying in a nearby hotel. We shared a few bottles of wine and some tapas size plates. Staff were very helpful and polite. Would recommend

Had dinner here and the food was good. The service was also good and friendly. As far as atmosphere is concerned, I was there early evening, mid-week so it was never going to be very busy. They also have a couple of good ales on draft too. I would go back there.

While I don't think their value proposition for the dinner menu is not that good, it is definitely the opposite for the breakfast. You got a lot for your money and it tastes relatively good. I won't hesitate to go again overall nice place and has friendly staff.

Came on a Saturday for dinner with the girls. The pizzas and burgers were divine, my friend had a chicken burger and said it was delicious while I had a pizza and it was lovely. Drinks were lush, we love an Old Mout and the Cherries and Berries was divine. Service was impeccable, bar staff were very chatty especially the manager Charley who had so much time for us and was very chatty and knowledgeable about what to order. Never been more welcomed by a member of staff. We will definitely be back, would strongly recommend this place to anybody!

The food was good. Ordered chicken wings , chicken burger , chicken pizza. The names in the menu card might b different but these were the items .. Staffs were friendly and gave us a good service. The delivery time was also less. Overall it was a nice experience. The second time I visited I had a sub and a mix platter... The mix platter was worth the price and the sub was also huge... Stomach filling and worth for money . Enjoy eating 😋
