About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Burnt Post in Coventry, it's got that classic pub charm that makes you feel right at home – think warm surroundings and a cracking beer garden for those sunny afternoons. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff really shine; they're polite, quick to fix any hiccups, and even sweet enough to comp a drink if things go awry, like with that lasagne delay. The food menu's a highlight too, offering everything from hearty burgers to special Sunday roasts and plenty of choices for kids or those going meat-free, and let's not forget the desserts that leave you smiling. But, to keep it real, it's not all smooth sailing – some have had a tough time with slow service that drags out a simple meal, and certain dishes like the roast potatoes can be a letdown, either too mushy or oddly spiced when you weren't expecting it. Overall, it's a solid pick for a laid-back evening with mates, especially if you're not in a rush, but I'd say give it a go and keep an eye on the specials to avoid any surprises. It's got that 4.1 rating for a reason, blending the good with a few bumps along the way.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, like when they apologised for a small delay and threw in a free pint
  • They've got a great selection of pub food, including tasty options for families, veggies, and vegans, plus that creme brulé dessert is a real winner
  • The spacious beer garden is perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a relaxed catch-up with friends, especially on a nice day
  • It's a solid spot for a mid-week meal or a family Sunday roast, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, like waiting over an hour for simple dishes, which might put a dampener on plans for a quick bite
  • Food quality isn't always spot-on – some dishes, such as the roast potatoes, have been described as bland or unexpectedly spicy, which could ruin the meal
  • Sunday dinners seem hit or miss, with complaints about missing veg or disappointing mains that don't live up to expectations
  • It's not the best for those who dislike surprises, as things like chilli flakes turning up unannounced might catch you off guard

Food quality was very good, staff very friendly and polite. Had a slight lasagne delay, but manager apologised and offered a free pint. Highly recommend the creme brulé dessert.

Worst roast potatoes I've ever eaten. The potatoes were more like boiled potatoes, not fluffy on the inside and no crispyiness on the outside, I don't know who decided to add chilli flakes but it made my whole meal just taste like chilli, I hate spicy foods and I don't think anyone is expecting to get roast potatoes seasoned with chilli, it doesn't say they have chilli flakes on the menu, horrible. The second thing was there are flys everywhere so while my mouth was burning we are all swatting huge flys away from our food. The staff however are always nice there.

Sunday evening 5pm booking so probably not reflective of their overall quality of food, however, it was pretty terrible. Fish medley is absolutely nothing special and rather disappointing considering it is highlighted as a 'favourite'. Sunday dinners were poor all around. No carrots despite them being listed as included. "Roast potatoes" were not actually roast potatoes, possibly microwaved new potatoes then thrown in a pan for a moment? Hard to tell. The Highlight was the cauliflower cheese. Beer was fresh and ice cold. Interior is good and welcoming. Shame about the food and there's next to no service as you must order at the bar, which is always a red flag if you want high quality food.

Went for the first time today. Couldn't knock the service we received from behind the till. But the food service was incredibly slow. We were there for 1.5hrs and all we had ordered was 1 starter, 2 burgers and 1 kids meal. Kinda defeats the point of a quick pub meal.

Came as a family of 7 for mid week meal, even though it seemed busy service and food was excellent, our waitress Emma was the sweetest person and nothing was to much trouble and always had a smile on her face, a true credit to the business. We will definitely be back soon
