About This Pub

So, picture this: you're in Bristol looking for a pub that feels like a proper local haunt, and The Packhorse fits the bill nicely. From the reviews I've had a look at, folks are raving about the Sunday roasts – one person said it's as close to a homemade meal as you can get, with big portions and none of that frozen nonsense. It's clear the staff go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, and there's even a DJ playing ace tunes to liven things up on Sundays. The drinks are reasonably priced too, which is always a win when you're settling in for a chat. On the flip side, it's a bit frustrating that there's no website or phone number to quickly check details, and the opening times look a bit muddled, especially for Sundays. Still, with a solid 4.7 rating from the crowd, it's got that genuine, community feel that makes it worth seeking out. If you're after a place to unwind with good food and friendly faces, I'd say give it a go – just pop by and see for yourself!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are absolutely brilliant – proper home-cooked vibes with generous portions that leave you feeling chuffed.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Drinks are well-priced, so it's a wallet-friendly spot for a good catch-up with mates.
  • There's a lively atmosphere with a DJ spinning great tunes on Sundays, plus free pool to keep things fun.
  • The outdoor raised decked area is a lovely spot for a pint when the weather's nice, adding to the charm.
Cons
  • No website or phone number available, which makes it a bit of a faff to check opening times or book ahead.
  • The operating hours listed seem a tad confusing, with varying times for Sundays – might catch you out if you're planning a visit.
  • As it's unclaimed on Google, it could mean things aren't as polished or up-to-date as they might be elsewhere.

The Packhorse is a lovely pub with a welcoming atmosphere, friendly locals, and polite staff. I played free pool on Tuesday with the bar lady’s son (I believe I heard “mom”), who was also very polite, adding to the great experience. The drinks are well-priced, making it an excellent spot for a relaxed night out. I’ll definitely be returning next time I’m in Bristol.

Only started going back in here recently after many many years away. Pleased to report that THANKFULLY it hasn't really changed a great deal over the years. Still great staff and friendly customers with a fantastic atmosphere and with a huge raised decked area out the back (if it ain't broke don't try to fix it)!!!. Reasonable prices and the Sunday roast is excellent value. Thoroughly recommended.
