About This Pub
Ah, The Ostrich – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper Bristol gem, tucked away by the water with that inviting beer garden that's hard to beat on a sunny afternoon. I've heard from folks who've visited that the food is reliably delicious, with pub classics that hit the spot without any pretence, and the beers are always spot on, especially the Butcombe ones. The staff seem to make everyone feel welcome, going above and beyond like that server who sorted out a complimentary beer on Father's Day – it's those little touches that make a difference. On the flip side, it does get packed at times, so if you're after a peaceful evening, you might find it a bit lively, and the prices are moderate, which means it could feel a smidge pricey if you're out for a big group meal. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates or a family outing, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep an eye on those opening hours to avoid any disappointments.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The location is absolutely brilliant, right on the harbourside with stunning views and a top-notch beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun.
-
The food is spot on – think hearty pub classics done well, with options that surprise and delight, like their flat cider and Yorkshire puddings.
-
Service is always warm and attentive; the staff really go the extra mile, making you feel right at home, whether it's for a quick pint or a special occasion.
-
It's a welcoming spot for families and well-behaved dogs, with a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks without any fuss.
-
They've got a great selection of award-winning Butcombe beers and cocktails, plus fun events throughout the year to keep things lively.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, especially on weekends or sunny days, which might mean a wait for a table or a bit of a crowd if you're after a quiet chat.
-
The kitchen closes a tad early, particularly on Sundays at 8pm, so if you're planning a late dinner, you might need to check the times first.
-
With moderate prices, it's not the cheapest spot in Bristol, so if you're watching your wallet, it could add up for a full meal and drinks.

Great location by the side of the Bathurst canal, good food a good pint and good service. 10 minute walk from the Temple Meads station.
A nice, real pub.
We came here for the first time on Father’s Day and can’t wait to come back. The food was lovely and they even gave a complimentary beer as a gift for Dad. The highlight for us was our sever Joe who went above and beyond. He was great. We will be back!
A great venue for our family celebration lunch. My guests were travelling from across England (and in one case across Europe). The lovely wharf area was a great place to meet up with the various arrivals over drinks. Then a great table inside for a hearty Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and the staff calm and considerate. A great time was had.
Simply amazing. Straight forward menu that doesnt overwhelm, but with some more unique add on options. Excellent food and the flat cider was delicious. I didnt think I liked yorkshire pudding and now I’m a believer. Perfect serving size, feel stuffed without feeling wasteful.
Stopped here for food on the way up to Ashton gate and had a great meal. A fairly busy Friday evening, but we were able to get a table and were served very quickly. I had the Reuben and my dad had the fish and chips, both were fantastic. The beer is obviously very well kept too. A really great atmosphere, with very friendly staff, will certainly be back, maybe next time we’ll try the outdoor area. Was dark when we got there but it looked to be very well maintained out there.
