About This Pub
Ah, the King William Ale House – it's one of those gems in Bristol that just feels like a proper old-school pub, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, folks really love the cosy, historical vibe with its antique booths and that welcoming fireplace, especially after a chilly walk around town. The beers from Samuel Smith are a big hit, and it's lovely how it's kept nice and quiet without any loud music blaring, making it perfect for a good chat with mates or even striking up conversations with other visitors at the bar. That £1 pool is a fun touch too, adding a bit of light-hearted entertainment without overwhelming the relaxed feel. On the flip side, it's a shame the beer selection sticks mostly to one brand, so if you're after something more adventurous, you might end up disappointed. And while the staff are generally spot on with their friendliness, they can occasionally fumble with unusual orders, which might leave you waiting a moment longer than you'd like. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, especially if you fancy a taste of tradition, but just keep in mind those little limitations to set your expectations right – I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone looking for that authentic pub experience in the heart of Bristol.

-
It's in a fantastic location on King Street in Bristol, ideal for a post-walk warm-up or just soaking in the local vibe.
Cons
-
The beer selection is limited to just Samuel Smith brands, so if you're after variety, you might find it a tad restrictive.
-
Staff can sometimes seem unsure about specific requests, like certain mixed drinks, which might slow things down a bit.
-
Prices for smaller servings, like half pints, can add up quickly at around £2.85, so it's worth keeping an eye on the bill.
-
It's only open six days a week, which means you might have to plan around that closed day if you're keen to pop in.

King William Ale House is a very nice spot with a fun atmosphere, with £1 pool. I asked for a “mixed” which is a mild and bitter, and while the staff seemed a bit unsure of the order, their friendly and polite manner more than made up for it. Set in a great area, this pub is definitely a place worth visiting for a relaxed and enjoyable night out.
We had a lovely time sitting by the fireplace, warming up after a 2 hour walk through Bristol.
The establishment was nice and quiet (no blaring music!) and has a lovely historical atmosphere.
We had lovely chats with some other visitors and the lady behind the bar. The stout and cider were lovely!
Haven't eaten here but visit whenever I can. Huge range of Samuel Smiths beers on tap, friendly staff, memorably antique interior including unusual seating booths. Don't miss it.
An absolute must visit for its place in history and the lovely street its on. Amazing ambience and great vibe, holds true to its 1754 origins.
Nice selection of pub fare.
I like to go to Classic pub in winter with fire. This orange house with Cozy, warm and festive atmosphere ( most important thing for me - not noisy here) A wide range of draught beers of brand Samuel Smith (no other brands). I would like to taste different beer, take half pint each, 2.85£ half pint. Normal price in Bristol city centre.
