About This Pub

Ah, The Golden Guinea, tucked away in the quieter part of Bristol's harbourside, is one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a good night out. I love how they've got this unbeatable range of guest ales and speciality beers; it's like a treasure trove for anyone who appreciates a well-poured pint, with options that go beyond the usual to include some unique finds. The outdoor space is an absolute delight, especially when the weather's on your side, and it's clear from the buzz around that it's a favourite for catching up with friends over a drink. They've nailed the atmosphere too, with friendly faces behind the bar and regular events like folk music jams that keep things lively without being overwhelming. It's also spot-on for hosting a do, whether it's a birthday bash or a casual meet-up, thanks to their function room. On the flip side, though, it can get a bit crowded on busier evenings, which means you might end up waiting for a table, and those later opening times on certain days could put a dampener if you're hoping for an afternoon session. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a welcoming spot with great drinks and grub, but it's worth planning ahead to avoid the rush – trust me, it's worth the effort for a proper Bristol experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of guest ales and beers – they've got some real treats like Trappist brews and local favourites that make every visit feel special.
  • Lovely outdoor area and beer garden, perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon or evening with mates.
  • Friendly staff and a warm, sociable atmosphere that really makes you feel welcome from the moment you step in.
  • Great for events and private functions, with a free-to-use room that's ideal for parties or gatherings.
  • Delicious, locally sourced food menu that's fresh, seasonal, and has folks travelling from all over to try it.
Cons
  • Opening hours can be a tad late on some days, like starting at 4pm on Mondays to Wednesdays, which might not suit those after an early tipple.
  • It gets quite busy, especially on Fridays, so you might have to queue or struggle for a seat during peak times.

I booked the downstairs room for a party. The team were so helpful with booking - prices were very reasonable, communication was great and nothing was too much trouble. On the day everything was excellent. The room was set up and decorated well, the staff were so helpful and a great selection on the bar. The food was amazing - we got a big vat of vegan chilli which was so tasty. Lovely to have the outside area and private space.
