About This Pub

Ah, The Beer Emporium – it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of a good Bristol boozer, tucked away in the heart of the Old Town. From what I've gathered from the reviews and details, it's all about that underground charm where you can kick back with an ever-changing lineup of top-quality beers from around the world; imagine 24 keg lines and 8 cask ones, plus a brilliant bottle shop that's even won awards. The food side of things, with Pepenero's authentic Italian pizzas, sounds like a winner for soaking up those pints, and the staff come across as absolute stars, full of personality and making every visit feel welcoming. It's got that mix of indoor cosiness for rainy days and outdoor spots when the sun's out, which is just perfect for chatting over a few drinks. But let's be honest, it's not flawless – some folks have mentioned the prices feeling a tad steep, and there've been grumbles about food not always living up to expectations, like a dodgy pizza or not finding your go-to beer. Still, with such high ratings overall, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the mood for a proper beer adventure; just go in with an open mind and maybe plan for a budget that covers the extras. All in all, it's a solid spot for a memorable evening with friends, balancing the highs and lows in that charming way only a good pub can.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely brilliant – they've got a fantastic range of kegs, casks, bottles, and cans, making it a proper haven for beer enthusiasts.
  • The staff are so friendly and engaging; from what I've heard, they really make your visit memorable with their chatty nature and top-notch service.
  • It's got a cosy underground vibe downstairs, plus the option to sit outside when the weather's nice, which is perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • The food is a real treat, especially the authentic Italian pizzas from Pepenero – they sound like a great match for all those beers.
  • With an overall rating of 4.4, it's clear loads of folks have had cracking times here, and it's right in the heart of Bristol's lively Old Town.
Cons
  • Prices can sting a bit, like that £9.50 pint mentioned in one review, which might put off those watching their wallet.
  • The food isn't always spot on; a couple of reviews noted issues like a burned pizza base, so it might not be reliable every time.
  • Sometimes the selection doesn't hit the mark for everyone – one person was disappointed with the stout options, so it depends on what you're after.
  • There have been a few gripes about service or experiences feeling off, like in that recent visit that left someone feeling annoyed, which is a shame for such a popular spot.

Beautiful pub in the heart of Bristol with premises in the basement and tables outside. At the moment of our visit (7th of June) there wasn't a good choice of my favorite stouts but many kinds of other beers.

One of my favourite pubs in Bristol. A great selection of drinks, friendly staff, and good food. Option to sit outside in the good weather, or in the cosy space downstairs when the weather isn't so good.

This is a bar I've visited many times in the last ten years or so, I had my 50th birthday party here I thought it was so good. However, today's visit left me feeling insulted and annoyed. I ordered a Bruges Zot beer at £9.50/pint, a beer I have drank many a time over the years, but unfortunately, this beer was off, not nice, not good. So we took it back and politely asked for a refund and wanted to buy a different beer. However, the bar manager was not happy we complained and refused to sell us another beer. He did refund the cost of the beer but then asked us to leave the bar because we. "didn't like his beer". I've never been asked to leave a bar in my life. Don't complain in this bar or the same may happen to you.

The pizza that we ordered wasn't that great. The base was burned. But it's a good filing for 3 people.

Jack was an absolute legend behind the bar! He made our night with his quick wit, infectious energy, and genuinely kind demeanor. Ordering drinks became a fun, interactive experience thanks to his humor and personality. Not only was he a master at crafting delicious drinks, but he also made everyone feel welcome and part of the fun. If you’re looking for great drinks and even better vibes, Jack is your guy. We’ll definitely be back—thanks for the amazing service, Jack!
