About This Pub

Ah, The Ormsgill – it's one of those places that really grows on you once you get past the unassuming exterior. From the reviews I've had a look at, folks rave about the staff; they're so approachable and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates right from the get-go. The rooms sound brilliant too – nice and roomy with everything clean as a whistle and those comfy beds that leave you well-rested. And don't even get me started on breakfast; it's hearty and well-put-together, with plenty of choice to set you up for the day. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't offer evening meals, so you'd need to plan ahead and pop to another spot for your dinner, which could be a minor inconvenience if you're not in the mood for a wander. Plus, being a bit out from the town centre means it's not ideal if you're after something more central, but if you fancy a peaceful pint or a quiet night in a friendly setting, it's worth considering. Overall, it's got that genuine, homely feel that makes for a solid choice, especially if you're after good value and a warm atmosphere without the hustle and bustle.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and always ready with a warm, friendly welcome that makes you feel right at home.
  • Rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and come with comfortable beds and modern ensuites – perfect for a relaxing stay.
  • Breakfast is a real treat, with a great full English option that's freshly cooked and includes tasty extras like toast and juice.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, with friendly locals adding to the charm, making it a great spot for a casual visit.
  • Plenty of parking available, and the overall vibe is comfortable and unpretentious once you're inside.
Cons
  • It doesn't serve evening meals, so you'll have to head out to a nearby pub for dinner, which might be a bit of a hassle.
  • The location is a tad out of the way, meaning it's a walk or a quick bus ride into the main town if you're not up for strolling.
  • From the outside, it doesn't look like much, so you might not get the best first impression until you step inside.

Doesn't look much from the outside, but the rooms were very clean and spacious. Breakfast was cooked fresh and delicious, but they don't do evening meals, staff were amazing, and the locals were friendly. it is a bus ride into town unless you like a walk

We were given a friendly welcome when we arrived. We were asked what time we would like breakfast and recommended a nearby pub for our dinner as The Ormsgill isnt serving evening meals at the moment. We then had help with our luggage to our room. We had a family suite which was 2 large adjoining rooms with an unsuited. We spent time in the bar in the evening with reasonably priced drinks and met some more staff and a few locals who were also very friendly. The fire was lovely and added to the delightful atmosphere. We enjoyed a few games of pool before returning to our room. The beds very comfortable and the rooms were quiet aswell which is always pleasant. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and we met another lovely lady who served us. The staff honestly couldn't of been more accommodating and it was so nice. I have already recommended here to several friends who also want to visit South Lakes zoo as it is only 8 minutes drive from the zoo. We would definitely stay again in the future. Thank you.

A warm welcome as soon as you arrive. The outside is tidy but unassuming with many parking spaces, however, once inside, the decor is beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The bedroom was spacious with an immaculate bathroom en suite. Would thoroughly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ormsgill Inn and will be coming back again. We recommend to all. When you arrive you are made very welcome and become comfortable and relaxed. The beer was very nice and the atmosphere was very friendly. The owners were wonderful and nice they make you feel at ease and you soon fall into a nice family environment, its like meeting old friends. All their staff were very nice and pleasant and quick to help if needed. Our room was spacious, very clean and beds were extremely comfortable hence we slept like a log. The room was on-suite and that was newly refurbished and very clean. The room has a flat screenTV on the wall and is of a decent size. Breakfast was fantastic and we can say one of the best we have had. We would recommend to all.
