About This Pub
So, if you're looking for a solid spot in Chorley for a bite and a drink, The Original Farmers Arms really stands out as a gem. It's got that classic country pub feel, with a menu full of tasty, home-cooked grub that's reasonably priced and includes everything from traditional fayre to some interesting specials – I mean, who doesn't love a good salmon fishcake with actual chunks of fish? The team there have been running the show for years, and it shows in the friendly service that makes you feel right at home. On the flip side, it's not flawless; a few folks have noted that not every dish is a winner, like the fried fish that didn't quite live up to expectations, and the varying opening hours might catch you out if you're not prepared. All in all, though, it's a place I'd happily recommend for a great night out – the high ratings speak for themselves, and it's clear most people leave with a smile, making it a reliable choice for anyone wanting a proper pub experience without any fuss.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot-on, with fresh, home-cooked dishes made from locally sourced ingredients – think hearty pub classics and a good variety of specials that won't break the bank.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, like stepping into a proper traditional country pub where you can relax with a pint of real ale or a glass of fine wine.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff are friendly and attentive, making every visit feel personal and enjoyable, with that local pub charm that's hard to beat.
-
It's dog-friendly and has plenty of space, split into cosy bar areas and a restaurant section, perfect for a casual catch-up or a proper meal.
Cons
-
Some dishes might not always hit the mark, like the fried fish which one person mentioned wasn't quite up to the same high standard as the rest of the meal.
-
Opening times can vary a bit and are subject to change, so it's worth double-checking if you're planning a visit to avoid any surprises.
-
The website feels a tad outdated with mentions of Covid-19, which might not give the freshest first impression before you pop in.

What a fabulous find ! Traditional pub with real ales and a great wide menu of pub food at great prices.
Nice dog friendly pub with great food. You know the food is good when the salmon fishcake has actual chunks of salmon, not that disappointing mush I often get. I also enjoyed the surf and turf, ribeye was cooked just right. Large selection of specials.
I'd say it's 4.5 stars food, as the fried fish did have more of an oily feel than what you can find in the best places, but everything nice apart from that. I am not rounding up to 5 stars just because I had to wait longer than average for the food, on a quiet evening.
Fantastic food at a reasonable price. Variety of menus and specials available. Overall a great experience.
First time after driving past for many years and it was lovely! Lots of space as pub is sectioned into restaurant area and bar/drinks area lots of specials on the board and updated menu as to what is previously online.
Service was great and on top of everything, recommending meals and also giving advice about best options of what can be combined into the set meal options.
Would say with the options that are on the menu for main courses, a few of the side options that you get to choose to add, don’t really go with a few of the meals so you feel like you are ordering something for the sake of it but very good options available
Great place good well cooked tasty traditional food with non traditional fayre too.
Service was perfect and all the staff were friendly.
Local pub feel and very welcoming.
