The Old Olive Bush, Rugby CV23 8AT

About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Old Olive Bush, it really stands out as one of those hidden gems in Rugby that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon a proper local favourite. The atmosphere is just spot on – imagine a cosy fire crackling away and everyone chatting away like old mates. The food is a real highlight; I've heard brilliant things about their steak pies and Sunday lunches, all served up at a fair price that won't break the bank. It's especially nice if you're near the canals or just after a relaxed spot for a pint. The landlady is a star, always cheerful and ready for a chat, which adds to that homely feel. But, to be honest, it's not all perfect – she runs the show solo, so if it's a busy night, things can drag a bit with waits for service. Still, with so many folks raving about it, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, just maybe plan ahead and go when it's not too hectic. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out with friends.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming and welcoming, with a cosy fire and friendly faces all around.
  • The food is delicious and well-priced, from hearty steak pies and fish dishes to a lovely Sunday lunch.
  • It's a great spot for a casual visit, especially if you're on a canal trip or just popping in for a drink.
  • The landlady is bubbly and polite, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is perfect if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop-off.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, as the landlady handles everything on her own, leading to delays when it's busy.
  • It gets quite packed, so you might have to wait for a table or your order, which can be frustrating.

The landlady runs the bar and kitchen without any staff, this inevitably causes delays. Whilst she is very bubbly and happy to chat the delays are really unacceptable.

One of Warwickshire's little gems, hiding in Flecknoe, lovely welcoming fire and friendly atmosphere. We enjoyed a well priced Sunday lunch today. Well worth a visit, not far from Daventry Road A425 and if you have one, dog friendly.
