About This Pub

Ah, The Old Crown in Bath – it's one of those cosy spots that feels like a proper hidden gem in Weston village, serving up hearty British fare and tasty pizzas that could win over anyone after a good meal. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the Sunday roasts are a real treat, with top-notch beef and vegan options, and the staff often shine with their friendly chats and thoughtful touches like homemade Yorkshire puddings. The beer garden is just lovely for soaking up the sun with friends or catching live sports on the telly, making it ideal for a relaxed get-together or cheering on Bath Rugby. On the downside, it's not all smooth sailing; some have had a rough time with long waits, especially during peak events like Christmas dinners, where meals turned up incomplete and without a word from the team. Still, with a solid overall rating, it's worth popping in for the highs, just keep in mind it might not be the place for a flawless experience every time – maybe plan for a quieter visit to enjoy the best of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious British classics and authentic stone-baked pizzas that leave you wanting more, like those fabulous Sunday roasts and pulled pork burgers.
  • The staff are really friendly and go the extra mile, with great service and even perks like an NHS discount to make you feel looked after.
  • It's got a lovely beer garden that's perfect for gatherings, whether it's a sunny day out or a lively party with mates.
  • They show live sports on the TVs, supporting Bath Rugby and more, which makes it a cracking spot for watching the game with a cold pint in hand.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss, with some reports of long waits for food, like over an hour between courses during busy events, which puts a dampener on things.
  • Occasionally, meals might be missing key bits, such as no stuffing or cranberry sauce, leading to a bit of disappointment when you expect the full works.
  • Communication from the team isn't always up to scratch, with some saying they weren't checked on during their visit, making it feel a tad overlooked.
  • The WiFi doesn't always work, which could be a nuisance if you're hoping to stay connected while enjoying a drink.

Christmas Dinner 2024 .£79.99 per head 1 hour 20 minutes between starter and main course ! No stuffing balls No cranberry sauce! One carrot one slice of parsnip! No communication from staff what so ever never once asked if everything was OK . Completely out of their depth trying to do this with the pub open to the public still serving at bar to non eaters . Sorry but we will NEVER return to this shambles.

We have always wanted to try this pub, as we have lived in Bath for over a year now. We came in Saturday and asked about their Sunday roast, and how the cauliflower cheese was done. Daniel said “I’ll show you” he then went into the kitchen and made his home made Yorkshire pudding and a pot of cauliflower cheese, as a taster. This was amazing, so we came back for the roast on Sunday and wasn’t disappointed the size of the plate and food was fantastic. They also put the Women’s Rugby on for us, which was a bonus. Lovely place, with friendly staff and will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.

We found The Old Crown whilst on a walk from Bath Waterside Marina and Caravan Park, it was about a 35 minute walk. The bar staff were friendly and the toilets were clean. Two pints cost £11.40 There was a sign stating WiFi available, however the WiFi was not working, we were told it was something to do with being linked to a credit card and not being secure. It was good to see that younger looking people were being asked for identification. (Those days have long gone for me) The menu appeared limited, Garlic Bread Starter and a variety of Pizzas. Whilst the staff were friendly the pub itself appeared full of locals and the atmosphere made us feel like slightly unwelcome outsiders. Dogs are welcome which is great, however the area we sat smelt strongly of dogs and the furnishings/cushions appeared grim.... To be honest this put us off eating here. Overall, an ok pub for a quick beverage for us.
