About This Pub

Oh, what a gem The Office Ale House is for anyone who appreciates a good pint! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its curated selection of craft beers – think hoppy IPAs and smooth stouts from local Yorkshire favourites, plus some intriguing international picks that keep things lively. The staff are an absolute delight; they're not just serving drinks, they're chatting away and sharing tips on what to try next, which makes the whole experience feel personal and fun. It's got that cosy, rustic charm that's just perfect for a relaxed catch-up with friends or even bringing along the dog for a pint in a welcoming setting. That said, it's not without its quirks – no food on offer means you might end up a bit peckish, and with doors shutting early at 9pm, it's more suited to an afternoon or early evening stop rather than a big night out. Still, for what it is, it's a refreshing change from the usual high street haunts, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area and up for some quality beers in good company. All in all, it's got that community feel that makes you want to come back, even with a few limitations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range of local Yorkshire brews and some international gems, with rotating taps that keep things fresh and exciting.
  • The staff are brilliant; they're friendly, knowledgeable, and always up for a chat, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got such a warm, cosy atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates or just unwinding after a long day – feels like a real community hub.
  • They're dog-friendly, which is a lovely touch if you're popping in with your furry friend for a pint.
  • The location's spot on, right in the heart of Starbeck, making it easy to drop by after a walk or on your way home.
Cons
  • They don't serve food, which is a bit of a shame if you're after a bite to eat with your drink – might need to plan ahead and grab something elsewhere.
  • The closing time's quite early at 9pm with last orders at 8:30pm, so it's not ideal for those late-night sessions or spontaneous evenings out.
  • It's only open six days a week, which means you'll have to find another spot if you're fancying a drink on their day off.

Great little bar. No food and early closing which is a shame otherwise it's ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Came in with my wife the other day after lunch and a walk, service was friendly and good to talk too (younger guy with tattoos), and the beer selection was impressive. Enjoyed the visit and will be returning👍

Great to have a lovely little independent bar in our community. Makes a nice change from the saturation of nail bars and fried chicken takeaways!

This microbar coming up to its first anniversary is surely destined to become a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide it’s that good. Four well kept, locally brewed cask ales are on sale along with an amazing choice of bottled beers. Only a hop, skip and a jump away from Starbeck 🚂 station, there’s no excuse not to call in if visiting either Knaresborough or Harrogate - you will not be disappointed. Must also mention the welcoming bar-staff and friendly regulars. So glad I took a punt on calling in here 👍🏻
