About This Pub

Ah, The Woodlands Hotel in Harrogate – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this warm, family-friendly atmosphere that's just spot on for meeting up with friends or enjoying a quiet meal. The menu's packed with classic pub fare, like hearty mains and tasty desserts, and they've even got some award-winning options for kids, which is brilliant if you're out with the family. The drinks are a highlight too; there's a great variety, including some low-alcohol choices, so it's accommodating for all tastes. And don't forget the dog-friendly beer garden – it's a lovely spot to unwind, rain or shine, with free WiFi to boot. The staff often come across as genuinely friendly, which really adds to that homely feel, and prices seem fair for what you get. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of dodgy food portions, like that fish and chips that was more batter than fish, and waiting ages for your meal can kill the buzz. Plus, if you're sensitive to noise, the traffic might be a nuisance, and it does lean towards a more mature crowd, so it might not be the place for a wild night. Overall, it's worth a visit for a relaxed pint and bite, but go in with realistic expectations – it's got charm in spades, but like any spot, it's got its off days.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is lovely and family-friendly, making it a perfect spot for catching up with mates or family celebrations.
  • They've got a cracking menu with traditional pub classics, delicious desserts, and even award-winning dishes for the little ones.
  • The drink selection is spot on, with a wide range of beers, ciders, wines, cocktails, and thoughtful low or no alcohol options.
  • Their beer garden is dog-friendly and a great retreat, whether it's sunny or not, plus free WiFi adds a nice touch.
  • Staff are generally friendly and welcoming, which really makes you feel at home.
Cons
  • Food quality can be inconsistent; for instance, some dishes like fish and chips might disappoint with tiny portions and more batter than actual fish.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, like getting a starter after 40 minutes and mains even later, which puts a damper on the experience.
  • There's a bit of traffic noise, especially if you're staying overnight or sitting outside.
  • It gives off more of a middle-aged or older crowd vibe with the interior and staff, so it might not suit everyone looking for a lively night out.
  • Recent visits have shown mixed results, with some folks finding the service a bit hit or miss.

Food is okay, took 40 minutes for a starter and then a friend was given his main meal at the same time. The rest of the group waited another 20 minutes. He had finished eating when we got out meals. Edit, recent visit since. We missed food by seconds but enjoyed drinks and nibbles. Lovely staff, not as busy this time. Thank you

Came here as a child often and didn't come for about 8-10 years up until a family meal in March and then again in October. Lovely, proper food! Piping hot, brilliant portion sizes, and decently priced! Deffo gives me more middle aged - old people vibes by the interior and staff, but still a lovely place for a decent meal out :)

Stayed here in our campervan overnight. Some traffic noise. Friendly reception. Not a huge carpark but no problem parking, slight slope. Large menu, good variety, good portions and tasty! Will be very happy to recommend and return! Thank you to manager and friendly regulars at adjacent table.🤗
