About This Pub

Ah, The Travellers Rest – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it with folks, the staff really shine; they're attentive and make you feel like you're among friends, whether you're there for a quick drink or sorting out a big event. The food's another highlight – think homemade British classics that hit the spot, with options for lighter bites or even the little ones, and don't get me started on those cask ales, which are always a treat. It's super welcoming too, with a dog-friendly area and that charming conservatory overlooking the valley, making it a brilliant stop after a ramble. On the flip side, it's a bit tucked away, so if you're not local, you might need to plan ahead, and with limited hours, it could cramp your style for a night out. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a laid-back day or evening, and I'd say it's worth seeking out for that genuine, homely feel without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, patient, and ready to go the extra mile, making everyone feel right at home.
  • The food is spot on; it's proper traditional British pub grub, freshly made with generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank.
  • It's a welcoming spot for all sorts, whether you're with a group, popping in for a pint of their excellent cask ales, or even bringing your dog along.
  • The atmosphere is lovely, with a cosy conservatory and stunning views over Crimple Valley, perfect for relaxing after a walk or hosting a special event.
  • They're great for functions and celebrations, offering flexible options like buffets or meals in a warm, airy space.
Cons
  • It might feel a tad out of the way if you're not in Harrogate, tucked away on Crimple Lane, so planning your trip could take a bit of effort.
  • With it only open six days a week and closing fairly early around 10 or 11 pm, it might not suit late-night gatherings or spontaneous visits.
  • While the menu is solid, some might wish for a bit more variety beyond the traditional fare, especially if you're after something more adventurous.

Showed on my most recent visit with a large group of people with disabilities. We were all sit together in the conservatory which was airy and clean. The man on the bar was really great with everyone. Patient, friendly and helpful. He had a good selection of draft ales. The original parts of the pub are wonderfully traditional, made up of nooks and snugs. I would like to return soon, perhaps have a meal. What I saw of the food looked pretty good to me. Thanks Travs!

I just had my Dad’s funeral tea here. The staff were amazing, so helpful. From Anne-Marie when we booked through to Rusty who looked after us on the day. He was friendly, efficient and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to The Traveller’s Rest my Dad had a good send off :-)

We don't get to go very often with us not living in Harrogate but when we do go we always really enjoy the food, the portions are of a good size too.. It's home cooked food and not microwave meals which is perfect for us. The service is always warm and welcoming, you are greeted & served with a smile. We would recommend The Travellers Rest and we will go again.

Lovely, very! Old pub close to the caravan park we are staying on, walked over on Good Friday early evening and it was fairly quiet. Good sized dog friendly area. Had two pints of Moretti, very good pint 🍺, we both ordered fish and chips and it was so tasty. Not oily at all, home made tartare sauce and ‘proper’ mushy peas and chips. Husband has the cheesecake for dessert which he said was delicious. Pub was getting busy when we left and will definitely go again … just to update, we’ve been again this evening, one burger and one gammon and again, spot on!

Wow, what a little hidden gem of a pub. We went here after seeing a youtube video of the nearby Harrogate Caravan Park (separate google review for that!) I have to say that I wasn't all that excited about going to this pub for food as on the video, it just looked a bit "pub grubby" but was happy to go for a pint. Well I was totally surprised by the quality of the food. It's absolutely beautiful. I had the sausage and mash, Mrs J had the Steak and Ale Pie with mash and both meals were amazing. This isn't pub grub, this is top quality food at reasonable prices. They also serve Moretti which will always tick a box for me. The pub is very old and the decor could be improved but all in all, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend.
