About This Pub

Ah, The Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Kingston, doesn't it? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which is such a breath of fresh air after a long day. Their drinks menu is brilliant too; whether you're in the mood for a perfectly mixed cocktail that transports you to sunnier climes or a glass of wine from their extensive collection, there's something to suit every fancy. And let's not forget the food – those Greek wraps and pizzas have got people raving, making it a solid spot for a bite alongside your pint. The live music nights add a lovely buzz, turning it into a proper community hub where you can enjoy a gig without the crowds of bigger venues. On the flip side, it's a bit tucked away, so you might walk right past it if you're not paying attention, and the opening times can vary, which might catch you out on a spontaneous visit. Overall, though, it's a cracking place for a get-together – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the little niggles!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from freshly ground coffee to an extensive range of wines, cocktails, and ales that cater to all tastes.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with live music events and a lively vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a gig.
  • The food is a real treat, especially their Greek street food and pizzas, which come highly recommended for a satisfying meal.
  • It's a spacious venue in a handy spot just outside Kingston town centre, making it easy to pop in for a relaxed evening.
Cons
  • It might not catch your eye straight away since it's tucked away a bit, so you could easily miss it if you're not looking.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what I've seen, which might mean it's not always open when you'd expect, especially on quieter days.
  • As it's not claimed by the owners online, things like updates or responses to feedback might not be as prompt as at other places.

I was meeting a friend for a catch-up and fancied a change of scene—The Oak turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Tucked just outside Kingston town centre, it might not grab your attention from the outside, but you’d be missing out if you passed it by. The staff were among the friendliest I’ve come across in a while—warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. I was greeted early with a smile, and things only got better when I spotted Murphy’s Stout on draught (a rare and very welcome find!). Out back, there’s a charming garden I didn’t expect—perfect for enjoying the last of the evening sun. All in all, a lovely spot for a relaxed drink and good conversation. I’ll definitely be back.

Great Public House that ticks all the boxes of pubs of old… Great bar team, fairly priced range of liquor, beers and Ale. Food is wonderful too!

Often go to watch Ransom playing at the Oak. It's a lovely venue that has good sound and a small stage for the band so you have better visibility. There is always a good audience and atmosphere (the one time someone in the venue was being out of order the landlord removed him promptly) and staff are always friendly and helpful. Also has a covered area outside for if you want more space or to watch football etc. If you like live music, definitely worth going to as they have some good bands on.
