About This Pub

Ah, Ram Jam Records – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper little haven tucked away in Kingston, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the vibe is spot on for a relaxed night out; imagine dim lights, candlelit tables, and that electric energy from live blues, funk, or soul bands that get your toes tapping. The staff come across as absolute stars, always friendly and on point, and the food gets rave reviews – think hearty brunches and reasonably priced meals that leave you satisfied. They're also big on supporting local artists with open mics and comedy nights, which is brilliant for discovering new talent. On the flip side, it can be hit or miss with some acts; one chap mentioned a comedy show where the last performer fell flat, so you might not always strike gold. Plus, figuring out when they're open could be a bit tricky without set hours, but overall, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a punt for anyone after a genuine, unpretentious pub experience in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's this cosy, intimate speakeasy vibe that makes you feel right at home, perfect for enjoying live music or a comedy night with mates.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the overall experience.
  • They've got a cracking lineup of events, from brilliant blues and jazz gigs to open mic nights that showcase local talent, and the food is delicious with reasonable prices to boot.
  • It's great that they're committed to accessibility, being wheelchair friendly and open to suggestions, which makes it inclusive for everyone.
Cons
  • Some events might have a mixed bag of acts, like one review mentioned a disappointing comedian that didn't quite hit the mark, so it could vary night to night.
  • Without clear operating hours listed, it might be a bit of a faff to plan a visit, leaving you guessing when it's open.

Went to the Friday comedy store for the first time. The venue is great, atmosphere is cool and staff are friendly. The first 2 acts were excellent and really good comedians. We were then thinking the final act would be special, oh how wrong we were. The act was very old fashioned and not in a good way, it was misogynistic, not witty or talented in any way and plain rude. The comedian, portrayed himself as a philanderer and gift to women, his behaviour towards some girls at the front was sleazy and offensive. Luckily my partner felt compelled to leave at this point, resulting in an awful end to the evening. The comedians final comedy (?) song was about big women which summed the whole act up. My partner and I were not alone in being offended, with other fellow members of the audience expressing their support. I appreciate comedy is personal and it's just words, but this one act really let the club and other acts down.

Went to the comedy brunch today. Can’t applaud it enough! Amazing acts fantastic food and insanely reasonable prices. Joy lives up to her name and is just a pleasure to be around in-fact all the staff are friendly approachable and most importantly good at their jobs! I couldn’t recommend the ram jam or the brunches more. If you’re thinking of going do it.

Had an incredible Sunday afternoon at the Ram Jam, enjoying the Burlesque and Blues event! Knockout performance in such a fantastically intimate venue, the music was immaculate and the costumes and dancing had me in awe! The atmosphere was brilliant and the brunch was divine! I had the Brisket Eggs Benedict which was cooked to perfection, the eggs were runny, brisket succulent and hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy. And all-round delicious afternoon! Would definitely recommend and will be back again!

Really great atmosphere and a good night out! Ram Jam is the music area of The Grey Horse, so make sure you book the right section! When we went, there was a live band playing called The Good Stuff, who were brilliant! Tickets were £10 per person online. The food here is also really good. Our waiter recommended the Jacobs Ladder Beef Rib, which was falling off the bone and smoked with a rich bbq sauce! Great drinks selection too - Bourbons don't have a menu but ask the waiter because the collection is extensive!
