About This Pub

Ah, Hawkers Bar and Brasserie, tucked away in the heart of Kingston upon Thames – it's one of those places that really delivers on the food front, with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients making every bite feel special, whether you're tucking into a juicy steak or enjoying their afternoon tea. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and quick to sort you out, which makes for a pleasant evening out. That said, it's not all perfect; the space can come across as a bit sterile at times, lacking that inviting, snug feel you'd expect in a favourite local haunt, and you might find yourself waving for attention if things get busy. Overall, it's a reliable spot for a good meal and a catch-up, especially if you're after value for money and a mix of classic cocktails and innovative dishes – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but keep your expectations balanced for a solid, no-fuss experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with dishes like steak and burgers coming out full of flavour and perfectly cooked – it's a real treat for anyone craving a hearty meal.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome and ensuring everything runs smoothly during your visit.
  • They use fantastic local produce, including artisanal beers and gins from nearby, which adds a lovely touch of authenticity to the experience.
  • The atmosphere is modern and clean, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a celebratory dinner, and they've got a great selection of cocktails and afternoon tea options.
Cons
  • The restaurant can sometimes feel a bit cold and unwelcoming, like it's missing that cosy, homely vibe you might hope for in a local spot.
  • Service might not check in as often as you'd like, so you could end up waiting if you need something extra during your meal.
  • A few items, such as the bread, have been described as a tad bland, which is a shame when the rest of the food is so good.

Good but could do a little better. Everyone was polite and friendly and the food was amazing. My steak was well cooked, and full of flavour. I definitely enjoyed eating it. It just felt a little cold and unwelcoming in the restaurant itself. No-one really checked in on you unless you managed to grab someone at the bar for a table, and then it felt like you were disrupting their job. But the food definitely was good and as a group it would probably work well that you weren’t constantly checked on.

I am eating in this restaurant since it opened few years ago. Overall I would highly recommend. Food is good quality and priced well like for Doubletree restaurant and the area of Kingston upon Thames. There is plenty of restaurants in the area ... I think that this one is worth trying, definitely convenient when staying at the hotel. They refresh the menu every so often, I really like recent update to bar menu with pizza choice and snacks. Pizza is excellent! I will return.

We had lunch here on a Monday. The food and service were excellent, and the restaurant modern. We would recommend it. Our starters were good, then for main I had the "dirty burger" (cheese and bacon burger) and my wife had the chicken breast, both excellent. The waitress found out it was my birthday and decorated my banoffee pie pudding accordingly (she even did a solo singing effort!). Excellent. Kids meals looked good value, so we will be going back with them. Friday they were advertising a £1 Flat White offer, so would be worth checking that out too if you just fancy a coffee.

The environment is modern, clean and pleasant. The staff are attentive and very friendly. I had a veggie brunch consisting of poached eggs, potatoes, mashed avocado, fried mushrooms and asparagus served with white bread. The bread was a bit bland but the rest of the food was fresh and well prepared. A great place for a liesurely brunch on a weekend.
