About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Grey Horse - Smok'd – it's one of those pubs that really knows how to deliver a memorable experience in Kingston. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where they shine brightest; think mouthwatering burgers and BBQ dishes that draw in crowds with their rich, smoky flavours and global influences – it's like they've bottled up the best of fire-cooked grub from around the world. Pair that with their extensive whisky collection and inventive cocktails, and you've got yourself a lineup that could keep any enthusiast happy for hours. The events, like open mic nights, add a brilliant layer of entertainment, creating that warm, shared energy where you might just stumble upon some hidden talent or have a laugh with friends. The staff come across as absolute gems, always ready with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel looked after. But, to keep it real, it's not all perfect – the music can crank up a bit too high, which might leave you straining to hear your mates over the din, and on packed nights, it leans more towards lively than laid-back, so it's worth bearing in mind if you're after a peaceful catch-up. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun evening out, especially if you're up for good food, drinks, and a bit of a social whirl, but just plan accordingly for the volume!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – their BBQ and burgers are packed with flavour and have won awards, making it a real treat for anyone craving a hearty meal.
  • They've got an incredible selection of single malt whiskies and creative cocktails that pair perfectly with the grub, plus brews from local craft breweries.
  • The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with fantastic events like open mic nights that bring in talented performers and create a fun, community vibe.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, going the extra mile to make you feel right at home, as if you're chatting with old mates behind the bar.
Cons
  • The music can get a tad too loud at times, which might make it tricky to have a proper chinwag over dinner.
  • It's more geared towards a buzzing crowd, so if you're after a quiet, relaxed pint, it might not be the best spot on busier evenings.

Went in with zero expectations, but the food was amazing. Every dish was rich in flavor, with a well-balanced mix of marinades and herbs. However, I have to deduct 0.5 stars—my condolences to my hearing. The music was so loud; I’m genuinely concerned for the staff.

Went to the open mic night on Wednesday and it was spectacular. I have never seen so many talented musicians all at once and the atmosphere was amazing. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did and I highly recommend this to anyone who likes music. Although I didn’t try the food, it smelled amazing.

Had a nice catch up with some friends. Enjoyed great food, tasty cocktails and nice ambiance. On the bar Maris took special care with our drinks and his service was faultless and made all of us feel special. Would definitely return just for the sexy cocktails and lovely team :)

I haven't tried the food, will update when I do. I have done some open mic nights and a poetry night, a very good venue. Lovely staff and patrons.

Love this pub with friendly bar staff, hearty food, board and card games to play upon request and an extensive range of whiskies available (a cocktail menu is also available if that's your bag). Music lovers: Grey Horse is a not only a cosy pub but also a live music venue (do check out their open mic night) - and you can even come and hear poetry here. The bar may be cosy, but the restaurant provides further seating in the evenings.
