About This Pub
Ah, The Lincolnshire Poacher, what a lovely spot it is in the heart of Nottingham – I've heard so many good things, and from what I've seen, it's spot on for a proper pub experience. The beers are an absolute highlight; they've got this brilliant range of cask ales and a massive whisky collection that could keep you exploring for hours, which is just brilliant if you're into that sort of thing. Pair that with the warm, welcoming atmosphere – it's got that classic alehouse feel with a snug and a beer garden that feels like a hidden retreat – and you've got yourself a winner. The food's another plus when it's on offer; those homemade meals and Sunday roasts are proper comforting, but do bear in mind it's not available all the time, so you might have to plan around the hours to avoid disappointment. It's dog-friendly too, which is always a nice touch for those impromptu walks. On the flip side, it does get packed on busier evenings, so if you're after a quiet corner, you might need to get there early. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a genuine, no-fuss pub night – the sort of place that keeps you coming back for more, with its mix of tradition and little extras like events and discounts.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of cask beers and whiskies – it's a real treat for anyone who loves a good pint or a dram.
-
Warm and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel welcome from the moment you step in, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
Hearty homemade food options, like those Sunday roasts, which hit the spot after a few drinks.
-
Dog-friendly setup, so you can pop in with your four-legged companion without any fuss.
-
Regular events and perks like student discounts and whisky offers, adding a bit of extra fun to your visit.
Cons
-
Food availability is a bit hit-and-miss, with limited hours and not a full menu every day, so you might need to time your trip just right.
-
It can get quite busy, especially on popular nights, which might mean a wait for a table or a spot in the beer garden.
-
Some folks might not realise the food options exist if they're not looking closely, as it's not always front and centre.

We visited this Castle Rock pub on the night of their monthly quiz. Fabulous selection of local beers. Great atmosphere warm and friendly. Would highly recommend.
EXCELLENT whisky selection. Really impressive. And friendly, knowledgeable service. A joy to see and I'll be certain to return, when next visiting Nottingham.
So many whisky’s to try when we return. We called in for a quick drink but ended up staying for a Sunday roast and whisky and really enjoyed it.
Great pub just a short walk from the city centre.
Dog friendly too, which is always a bonus.
Love this pub, been popping in here for over 25 years!! Its warm with lovely summer garden.
Not had any food. I don't think they do any. Never seen it advertised or offered.
Nice ales Yes, highly recommended.
One of my all-time faves. Why haven't I reviewed before? It's been there as part of my life for over 30 years and is part of Nottingham's rich pubby folklore. Always excellent ales, brilliant food and belting service, in a completely understated and traditional interior. This is what real pubs are made of.
Thanks for being there for over half my life, Lincolnshire Poacher and the gang, I may visit other pubs, but my loyalty to you will never fade.
