About This Pub

Ah, The Kings Head in Bristol is one of those hidden gems that really warms the cockles of your heart. It's a family-run affair that's been a staple in the area, dishing out authentic Caribbean cuisine alongside classic pub grub, all made with locally sourced ingredients. From the mouthwatering jerk pork that just melts in your mouth to the rich curry goat, it's clear why folks are buzzing about it – the portions are generous, the prices are fair, and there's even a good selection for vegetarians and vegans. The place comes alive in the evenings with live music, like their monthly 'Kings & Chill' nights, and they've got all the major sports on, making it ideal for a casual get-together with mates. That said, it's not perfect; a couple of reviews mentioned it'd be even better with more veg options on the plates, and the operating times can be a bit unclear, so you might want to double-check before heading out. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or a fun night, and I'd definitely pop back for another go at that rum selection – it's got some rare finds that are worth exploring.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Caribbean food is absolutely spot on – think tender jerk pork and flavour-packed curry goat that's got everyone raving.
  • It's a welcoming family-run spot with a lively vibe, thanks to live music events and gatherings that make it feel like a proper community hub.
  • Great value for money with generous portions and a mix of traditional pub classics, roasts, and plenty of veggie and vegan options to suit all tastes.
Cons
  • Some might find the menu could do with a few more veg sides, like steamed greens, to balance out those hearty meat dishes.
  • The opening hours seem a tad confusing at times, which could put you off if you're trying to plan a visit on a whim.

The best Caribbean food I've had in a very long time! Highly recommend. I'll be going back for sure. Everything tasted amazing, decent sized portions and great value for money. Couldn't fault it at all!

We've wanted to go there for a while and managed it today. Food was delightful. I had jerk pork and my partner had goat curry. Pork fell apart where it was so perfectly cooked. It looked great and tasted even better. The goat was amazing (not on the bone) and not fatty at all. It was so tasty and spice levels were perfect. Really great food. We will definitely be going back.

Incredible jerk pork, jerk chicken and curry goat, have tried everywhere in Bristol and this is by far the best Jamaican food! Festivals were fresh, sweet, light and fluffy…only thing that would make it even better is serving steam veg with the meal- could be personal preference of mine. Tuesday evening so atmosphere was not so great, but I don’t put this down to fault of the business.

This place has been on my list for ages! I've only been in for a pint at the King's Head before. Now I finally visited for their highly regarded food. I was 100% certain I was going to have their pretty famous roast... But after looking at the menu, I ended up going for the 'KINGS COMBO'. - King's Jerk Chicken with sweet peppers, onion jerk gravy - Jerk Pork Belly - Curried Goat Served with - Rice & Peas - Slaw - Cabbage & Carrot I loved every bit of this and I was so full! But I'm still very tempted to try the XXL COMBO next or the Sunday Roast I meant to get this time (which looked amazing BTW) 😁 @bristolian_foodie
