About This Pub

Ah, The King William – it's this lovely old spot tucked away in Mangrove Green, dating back to the 17th century, and it's got that warm, traditional pub charm that just draws you in. I really appreciate how they've nailed the basics: cracking local beers, a solid wine selection, and a menu packed with fresh, tasty dishes that cater to all sorts of tastes, whether you're after something hearty from the grill or a bit more international flair. The rooms are straightforward and comfy enough for a quick stop, especially if you're jetting off from Luton airport the next day, and they've got some fun entertainment options like big screens for sports, which could make for a great night out with friends. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – the pub can get a bit rowdy, with music and chatter going on until the wee hours, and those thin walls mean you might end up listening to the goings-on downstairs or in the corridors, which isn't ideal if you've got an early morning. Still, if you're up for a relaxed evening of good food and drinks without expecting total quiet, it's definitely worth popping in for a visit; just plan ahead if you're staying over to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The cosy atmosphere with local beers and great wines makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed pint with mates.
  • Tasty food options, including international dishes and flame-grilled favourites, that hit the spot every time.
  • Handy location near Luton airport, ideal for a quick overnight stay before catching a flight.
  • Comfortable rooms offering good value, with everything you need for a straightforward night's rest.
  • Fun entertainment like widescreen sports viewing and quizzes, adding to the lively vibe of the place.
Cons
  • Noise from the pub can carry on late into the night, making it tough to get a good night's sleep if you're staying over.
  • Occasional mix-ups with bookings or not being told about things like breakfast, which can throw off your plans.
  • Thin walls mean you might hear everything from nearby rooms or corridors, disrupting the peace.
  • Some rooms feel a bit small and are in busier areas, like near the reception, which isn't great for unwinding.

There is a pub down stairs and they had music playing really loud until around 12:30am - The reason i used the hotel is because i had to be up early for an early flight. You would think with the hotel being mainly for people using the airport they would have some consideration for their guests. I would never stay here again which is a shame as the hotel used to be ok.

When we arrived at the venue. We where told we did not have a booking, even though I gave the same man my card details over the phone. Lucky they had a room available, as we came for a family party and drove up from London, we were not told we had to book breakfast, so in the morning we were told by same man who booked us in, if you did not book no breakfast, and told us a cafe was up the road. Which we did not find he was the most unhelpful person we have met in the hospitality.

Handy location for Luton airport. I wouldn't stay here again for a red eye flight. You can hear everything from the pub below. Even on a Sunday night it was rowdy downstairs I ended up having to phone down at 10pm to ask them to stop the group of men singing. Walls so thin I could hear everything being said below me and all the lyrics to the songs being sang! No one available at reception at all times so you have to venture to find the bar staff. Room was questionable and uncomfortable. Pest control device under the bed which was unnerving. The heater hadn't been turned up prior to arrival even though we informed of arrival time. Took a long time to hear up and was uncomfortably cold. Can't mention the food as they stopped doing food on Sunday at 6pm. No hairdryer available.

Plus points are, it's in a very quiet part of the town. In fact miles from anywhere. Nice village pub as part of the hotel. More like a pub with rooms really. My room was the first room on the ground floor right by the reception and the front door. So lots of banging and chatting in the corridor. But went quite after 10pm. My room had 2 single beds in it, my company had booked a double room. Both beds completely worn out, bony and squeaky. There was no chair or stool in the room dispite having 2 built in table units. The built in ensuite bathroom was quite poor to be honest. Very cold with plenty of black mould on the floor. While sat on the loo your leg is pressed hard on the sink. Hot water took forever to come through. Won't be staying again.

On the whole this was a nice place to stay and handy for Luton airport. We stayed for one night and had a meal here. The food was fresh and tasty. Our room was small but had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable.
