About This Pub

Ah, The Smithfield at Luton Airport – it's one of those places that feels like a reliable old mate when you're grabbing a meal in the midst of travel chaos. From what I've gathered from the chats online, the staff really stand out; they're often described as smiley and professional, like Jonathan or Leonel, who seem to go the extra mile to make you feel at ease. It's that kind of friendly vibe that can turn a stressful airport stop into something a bit more enjoyable. On the flip side, though, the food tells a mixed story – it might look great on the plate, but more than a few have mentioned dishes like gammon or pasta coming out hard or cold, and even simple things like chips not being fresh. Then there's the service speed, which can drag on, especially if you're waiting for drinks or just a general order, and the prices feel a tad steep for the experience. All in all, if you're after a quick, cheerful pit stop with decent service, it's worth a go, but maybe keep your expectations in check on the grub front – it's a handy option at the airport, but not quite the standout meal you'd hope for.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience feel a bit more homely, especially in an airport setting.
  • You can get seated quickly if it's not too busy, which is a nice touch when you're in a rush for a flight.
  • The food often looks appealing when it arrives, and some folks have had surprisingly good service that brightens up their day.
Cons
  • The food quality isn't always up to scratch – things like chips being underwhelming or dishes arriving cold can put a dampener on things.
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like, particularly if you're on a tight schedule.
  • Prices tend to be on the higher side for what you get, and some meals just don't quite hit the mark, making it feel overpriced.

It looked good from the outside. Seated straight away as it was quiet and the lady was friendly. Ordered our food and drinks on the app. The food came out, presented nice but wasn't good. Gammon was hard, chips were not nice. Pasta was cold. My drink still hadn't arrived, I told another lady and she basically said 'not her department '. I had to go to the bar to ask for my drink and I could see it just waiting on the side and no one brought it over and the staff waiting the food and drinks were just doing nothing. Not impressed with the price we paid. Had nicer.

Wasn't expecting particularly good food or service at an airport but was very pleasantly surprised. Jonathan was really impressive really friendly smiley and bright to everybody, he started our holiday off I'm a really positive note. Brilliant service well done!

The Smithfield restaurant is located at London Luton Airport, and from the very beginning, it’s clear that the establishment prioritizes high-quality service. Our server, Leonel, deserves the highest praise – his professionalism, kindness, and constant smile create a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. He approaches his duties with remarkable passion and dedication, ensuring that guests feel comfortable and well taken care of. As for the food, the Caesar salad with two pieces of chicken and lettuce with dressing was prepared correctly, but it lacked depth of flavor. The dish felt somewhat underwhelming, as it was rather simple and missing additional vegetables. The peach iced tea was also disappointing – its taste did not match what the name suggested and lacked any distinctive flavor. Overall, while the culinary experience leaves room for improvement, the outstanding and professional service—especially from Leonel—makes a visit to The Smithfield a positive experience.

Honestly there's no much good things to say about our meal here. We ordered a fish&chips, bacon burger, nachos and shrimps. The chips in my meal were not fresh, only mildly warm. The fish, well it was falling apart and eating it would've been easier with a spoon. My friends nachos with guacamole were also not good, the nachos were flavourless and the guacamole was unseasoned beyond unnecessary amount of mint in it, really it felt like I was eating an avocado with mint on top. The shrimps were okay I guess, well you couldn't really taste the shrimp because the batter killed the flavour of the shrimps. The aioli sauce that came with the shrimps was just mayonnaise with a lot of vinegar. The burger was hm, just a burger, pretty unimpressive as my friend said. In the end we left pretty unsatisfied, especially considering the prices here. 18.50 for a fish and chips with lukewarm fries and a fish that's falling apart. Overall a disappointment. Edit: I forgot to mention how dirty the glasses for our drinks were, we got two long glasses for our soft drinks, both of them were not exactly clear and had some chunks of something inside them. I have no idea how the waiter nor the Bartender noticed that. The third glass was already filled with coke so we didn't know if it was equally dirty or not.

We visited this restaurant for brunch today before a flight and it was good. The breakfast service has finished so I went for the all day breakfast while the better half went for the vegan all day breakfast. The pricing was a bit on the higher end and the service was slow. The food was ok although the portions were good sized.
